You mean the series where he threw about 3' behind RS and he still made the catch? He holds onto the ball too long and his delivery is too slow. This has always been the case. All the fundamentals talk from Krags doesn't change that.
one about the series where he put the ball right in the guys hands at the sideline. Each QB had there good and bad moments.

Missing wide open receivers and skipping balls has nothing to do with a non blitzing defense. Give him two more completions from catchable balls and it is still les than 50% completions.

Mettenburger isn't unseating a 5th year starter in his final season, especially not before the season even starts..
considering we don't have one of these...

Unreal - it's like Miles is seeing a totally different player than we are -
Maybe Miles knows more about football than a bunch of fans? Ya think?
Your post proves that he knows more than you do.

this definitely deserves it's own thread.

Jefferson was terrible last year in the spring game. 8-24.
Jefferson was awful in the spring game this year: 4-14.

I feel sorry for JJ. Really I do.... I believe that the kid is trying his hardest and playing to the best of his abilities. Is he a QB that should start in the SEC? No but what kid will tell his coach "I'm sorry coach but I can't be your starting QB because I'm not good enough to be"... No kid will ever do that playing at a major college football school.
The current QB problems (JJ starting) have nothing to do with JJ himself, but have everything to do with Miles and this staff. This coaching staff has created this probem with JJ and now needs to find a solution to fix the problem.
I understand the frustrations as a Tiger fan, just place the real blame of the problems where they belong and not on the kids that are trying their hardest and playing for us on Saturday nights.

What message does this send to other players??
What message does it send to the players if he gives the reigns of the offense to a guy who has been with the team for about four months and done nothing to assert himself over the incumbent?

The stats do not tell the whole story. JJ played about as well as JJ can play in the scrimmage, and he completed well below 50% of his passes. A couple were well-defended, but he had at least 4 or 5 very inaccurate throws...one of which Sheppard caught. He threw a poor pick and also had a fumble.
All of this was in a scrimmage with no blitzing, and a team that was stacked on both offense and defense. It appeared that Miles tried to stack the deck for JJ so that he would clearly out-perform the other two QBs...if this was Miles' plan, it failed.
I saw no improvement from the QB play that has led LSU to a bottom 10 offense over the past two seasons. As it ways, he clearly outperformed him anyway (by my estimation).
Miles owes it to all of the players on the team to always give the best players the majority of snaps at every position. When an older player cannot clearly separate himself from the younger players, the younger guys should get the snaps because their ceiling appears to be higher.
Had Mettenberger (or Lee) gotten the snaps with the stacked team JJ had on Saturday, it is hard to believe that they would not have looked way better than JJ did.
Those that ignore history are doomed to repeat it. I hope our defense is ready for the season opener...

Keep in mind, they were playing with a "as watered-down as it gets" playbook because they were playing on national television. JJ's advantage is the depth of knowledge of the playbook (I know, I laughed a little when I typed that), compared to Mett.
All of the basic routes and throws that were being made on Saturday do not highlight JJ's advantage.

you "assume", and wrongly, that JJ would be able to complete these passes, or even read the defense properly to find the right receiver in the package.
All evidence is to the contrary.

Evidence from closed practices, you mean?

The same people that claimed last year's spring game didn't mean anything, are the same ones doing the same thing now. And how'd it work for Jefferson last year. The old cliche is sometimes right, what you do in practice...you do in games.
I can't wait for Jefferson's 9/21 performance against NWSU and he saying in the press conference he played well.
