Whoever the replacements is...it would be helpful if he has the knowledge and recollections of an LSU fan and is not just some outsider with a smooth voice. It is kind of an unwritten rule that the voice of your university have a little diehard in him.

He will always be "the voice of the tigers" to me (coming from an LSU athletic alum)

LSU has a history of hiring mediocre to bad announcers. J.C. Politz, John Ferguson, and now Jim Hawthorne.
Politz wasn't terrible but he got in trouble with the Adminstration at the time.
Ferguson wasn't horrible but every pass an LSU QB ever threw was just off the receiver's fingertips and every opponent pass was "almost intercepted."
Hawthhorne is really bad. Numerous times I have listened for several plays never knowing what the score was, where the ball was and even what the down and distance were/
He is ridiculous doing Basketball. No idea of what is going on on the court.
He can go an entire half-inning in baseball with no mention of the score.
I can only guess he is trying to do a television call on radio.
I would like to see him retire but I have no confidence that LSU will hire anyone better.
Hawthorne makes it difficult to be a fan sometimes.

With a little training and practice, any person of adequate intelligence could do a better job than Jim Hawthorne, but, there's no use in discussing it, because he will occupy his current job position until the coroner rolls him out of the pressbox on a gurney with the sheets covering his face.
