On the inside, Elleshoe. On the inside.

Well Randall was certainly a better athlete than Jefferson.
Jefferson's greatest strength is his ability to windup and throw a straight bomb with good accuracy. Randall, however, did throw the Bluegrass Miracle as a sophomore, so it's not like he's incapable of passing. From anecdotal stories I've been told, he just got nervous and anxious and froze up in games, like against Auburn & Alabama in '02.
In terms of being an athlete beyond just being able to play the QB position, Randall has more in common with Jefferson. In terms of knowing how to play the QB position, but occasionally falling short due to nerves or whatever, Randall has more in common with Lee.

for stat watchers i guess randall may look better, but what games did randall win? he started half of 2002 and most of 2004 and won around 11 games as a starter in that time. some of those wins were "saved" by JR. probably the two least successful seasons since 2001 besides the j lee 2008 adventure.

Kentucky in '02 and Florida in '04 for starters.
Now what games did he lose?
I never thought I'd find myself defending Randall as a QB. He certainly wasn't one of the better ones at LSU. But sheesh.

Devery Henderson and the inept Kentucky's DBs who don't understand the "knock it down" concept" won that.

kentucky in '02 was not a "big win." he pretty much f---ed up so much that we needed a miracle to win it.
j russ started '04 florida and put us in a terrible position. i'd would say that was one of randall's better games though. j addai probably should be credited with that win.
randall won 3 games out of 7 in 2002. south carolina we won easy, bluegrass miracle, and ole miss (14-13). we lost to auburn 31-7, bama 31-0, and arkansas 21-20 (saban screwed that one up). and then 35-20 loss to texas in cotton bowl.
this guy was tough, but when he had a bad game we didn't even compete. and 2002 and 2004 had outstanding defensive units.

So if you're looking for games that LSU could have won with a better QB than Randall, what else do you have besides the 21-20 Arkansas loss that was really more of a defensive letdown than anything else?
You can pin multiple losses on the shoulders of Russell or Jefferson, but how many can you realistically pin on Randall?
Again, not saying he was a good QB. Just better than JJ.

i would say the losses include:
'02 auburn, '02 bama, cotton bowl '02 (great 1st half and no response offensively in 2nd), and capital one '04.
capital one was an almost save for russell, but randall put us in terrible position in that game. flynn was 2nd in and was more effective. russell almost saved the day, but defense blew it.
i know you are not saying randall is a good qb, but the fact that we are competetive with jj every game leads me to believe he is a better qb than randall. believe me i suffered through every randall experience and jj one as well. they are two of the worst qbs i've ever seen at LSU. one manages a more succesful team though.

Anyone who says Randall is as good or better than JJ should never be allowed to discuss fb again on this board.

Truly, Randall was not ready to play in 2002, and those Auburn & Alabama games probably represented THE low point in LSU's offensive production for the years 1995-2008.
But Randall played relatively decent his senior year. Oregon State and Iowa games aside, it bears repeating that against LSU's toughest opponents (Auburn, Georgia, & Florida), Randall was more effective than Russell. It was still ugly though.

dude was terrible.
it seems like lsu has this qb problem quite often. i could have told you that jj was not meant to be an LSU qb a long time ago. j lee inability surprised me at first. randall was horrible. russell was naturally gifted, but still was not a great college qb. only one game with over 300 yards, his last one against nd. jr had the most gifted receiving group as well.

Randall was pretty shitty but Jefferson was most likely the worst starting QB in the country last year.

Imagine if Randall had been our QB last year then.

lol blaming the cotton bowl on randall is laughable. i dont like randall or jj but the 02 cotton bowl is in no way randalls fault. texas was the better team

randall would have had more than 4 td passes all year and probably could have thrown for over 100 against mcneese state.

Me too. It wasn't until around the 6th game of the '08 season, on the road against the Gamecocks, that I finally said to myself, "Okay, maybe Lee might be worth sticking with as our future QB after all." Then he came home and got his ego bruised by LSU fans against Georgia, Tulane, & Alabama; hurt against Ole Miss; and shoved aside against Georgia Tech.
Miles & Crowton really hung him out to dry. It still pisses me off to this day.

As long as he wasn't puking on the field because of nerves

I was pretty young, but I seem to remember Randall holding up alright against SEC teams. I remember seeing him against South Carolina right after Mauck's injury in 2002, as well as against Florida in 2004.
The fact that our team around Jefferson was so talented is the reason I said he might have been the worst. He had a pretty decent WR corps, a very productive stable of RBs, an average OL, and a great defense.
