I can see the majority on here are so worried about bashing JJ and Miles that they didn't realize that they know nothing about football. The read option is not the same as a pitch option, which is fine to run to yhe short side if executed correctly. The read option is the play that Cam burned the SEC with last year. Clear the hate from your eyes and read before you post

Do any of you people know what a read option actaually is?
Yes. Yes we do.
Its the "read" in read option that sucks. Most everyone (including coaches) know that JJ usually has one read. Himself! He had the 2nd most carries on the team, but the lowest yds per carry. He ran 123 times. No, thats not a typo. 123 times, and averaged around 3 yds per carry. All other backs avg close to 5+ yds a carry.
He sucks at the READ portion, of the read option.

We've had a crazy drop off in fullback play since Quinn and Hester left. I hope one of these guys can step up. It seems like an important piece to what Les wants to do on offense.
Why the frick does LSU have to go out of state to find a big blocking freaking fullback that can learn the playbook? Is there not one high school football player from LA (A la Tommy Banks, Kevin Steltz, Jacob Hester, Quinn Johnson) with the physical attributes and enough between the ears to play the position to the satisfaction of Les Miles.
I know there are many that would give anything to have the opportunity, even if they're walk-ons, so what's the problem? (BTW, walk on Stampley aint cuttin it) They should have moved Edwards to FB several years ago and at least given Fordham (Too late now) a shot.
Allen, Worle and Theriot are out state FB busts and all "Gern Pecerns." Is Copeland or Neighbors going to cut it?

I miss Steltz and Quinn J, those guys were the shite.

I would be in favor or removing the option, ANY type of option, from the entire repertoire. It hasn't succeeded since Matt Flynn ran it from the Pistol formation. (He's got world class speed, now!... Muffberger)

This is not the least bit accurate. LSU scored several times last season alone on 'any type of option'. Pretty much every rushing TD from JJ was 'any type of option'.

I don't disagree, options are primarily used by teams who don't match up well and need some sort of trickery to gain advantage, and we really shouldn't need that this year...however, no matter how ugly the pitch option has looked, this hasn't been a bad play for LSU over the past couple of years. In addition, it's primarily used out of the spread set which keeps the defense somewhat honest.

Are you seriously this intellectually dishonest or are you that stupid that you don't know that sacks count against these stats? We know you hate black people, Robb, but come the frick on.

factoring out sacks he averaged 6 yards per carry...second most on the team.

Closer to 3.7, then add about 120 sack yards and magically he has a 4.6 ypc, same as Ridley.

There is nothing wrong with the short side option if called at the right time and executed properly.
Wow, somebody here knows something about option football.
There is nothing wrong with running the option to the short side of the field at times. do we have a lot of women posters or something? The low football IQ of some of our fans amazes me sometimes.

did you realize that in college sacks are averaged in with rushing yards?

Did he say JJ? pretty sure he just typed mett and lee.
He said 'dont run it with Lee and Mett, OR to the short side of the field.' As in.. do not run the option with Lee/Mett and do not run the short side option at all.

It's a bad play when ran improperly. You don't have to be a football coach to know when a play is ran incorrectly when it loses yards.
If it loses yards 1 yard 6 times in a row and the 7th time busts out a long TD, was it worth it?

RobbBobb might be one of the dumbest posters on this forum, which is saying a lot considering the competition.

If a team runs some type of option it forcxes the defense to slow down its pursuit and play assignment football. That in itself is a likely reason that Les likes to have a few option plays in the playbook.
