Regardless of what level a HC is at it can be evaluated whether he can actually coach or not, can he recognize good assistants and coordinators, you don't have to be at the top to determine if someone can coach or not. BK is just an unlikeable person and I have to question can he actually coach or not. Evaluation of assistants and coordinators and players is the critical attribute now for a head coach in the world of NIL. Players could give a shite about loyalty, money is the driver so a good D2 salesman could be at the same level as the D1 big name who cannot evaluate.

Florida did this with Billy Napier and we saw how that worked out

I’d rather be them right now, they’re hitting eject. We’re tied to a guy that’s pretty clearly not working out and our options are

Would you? They’re still paying $21 million to buy out Napier’s contract. After paying a $12 million buyout to Dan Mullen. After paying a $7.5 million (negotiated from $12 million) buyout to Jim McElwain. After paying a $6.3 million buyout to Will Muschamp. That’s $47 million in HC buyouts and 4 rebuilds over 11 years.

Over that time period, Florida is 53-41 (.564) in SEC play. For reference, LSU is 60-34 (.638) over the same time period and 19-9 (.679) so far under BK.

You say you’d rather be them today because they were able to move on from Napier, but what’s more likely:
A) That this time they find their guy on a “cheap” contract and go on a great run? Or,
B) That they’re doing the same thing again in 4 years?

Don’t get me wrong.. Kelly’s buyout is a problem for LSU. I’m not trying to argue otherwise. But I think it’s a bit of a hot take to say you’d rather be Florida as if their approach is justified by being able to walk away from Napier, when their approach pretty clearly hasn’t worked for a decade.
