It's nice to have a QB coach and an OC who can actually call good plays.

What a huge difference Crowton's replacement has made on the LSU offense.
You could see it coming in the Texas A&M game.
The play calling looks so much better this year. It's nice to see LSU actually attacking a defense. It's also nice to see the play calling not stymie the offense's rhythm.
(Might be interesting to see what Maryland does with West Virginia this week, and compare it to what LSU does with West Virginia next week.)

Agreed, I have noticed a complete lack of bitching about the offense for the past 2 weeks. Of course 40 points a game is one reason, but also our offense no longer looks like a a bunch of stud racehorses running at full speed but still stuck in the starting gates.
We might not be very complex, but we don't need to be and never did. Crowton's offense was too much for even the most educated fan to comprehend. Its no surprise a bunch of 20 year old kids struggled with it.
Looks to me like Les once again identified the problem and found a solution.

I'd rather have a QB than a QB coach. We got both this year where last year we didn't have either.

Did you miss the Cotton Bowl?

No delay of game, false start and illegal shift penalties of note

I was at the Cotton Bowl. What's your point? Given a month to prepare, JJ can figure out how to play QB? Too bad he couldn't do it during the regular season.
Like I said, now we have a QB. 2 of them.

I like the fact that we're not afraid to call the same play 2 plays in a row.

All of those penalties tend to stall drives. The missed opportunities and yards add up. It's a lot easier to run the ball when you don't shoot yourself in the foot.

I like the fact that we're not so sporadic with our formations...
last year was I-formation, 5-wide, pro set in shotgun in three consecutive plays way too often.
We seemed to have chosen an offensive identity and are going with it, rather than trying to be 8 different offenses all at once.

Apparently you want to discuss Jefferson. Okay, that's cool. Jefferson had a horrible stretch of games in 2010. However, his stats for November were not bad:
43 of 67 (64.2%) for 630 yds; 9.40 ypa; 2 TDs 1 Int; QB rating = 150. Over 100 yards rushing with 1 TD.
In 2011, we've seen the change in play calling and the willingness to attack the defense. We've seen better o-line play. We've seen a better rushing attack. We've seen fewer drive stalling plays.
You don't think Jefferson would perform better in 2011 than he did in 2010 under improved circumstances?
You don't think Kragthorpe would have improved Jefferson's mechanics and play?

It's nice that the offense has an identity. We run to setup the pass. Nothing too fancy. I'm really not sure what we did with Crowton. We didn't set anything up, just seemed to run a bunch of random plays in no order.
We still need to find a solid WR to step up. This offense will be very, very dangerous if we can find someone to take the double coverage off Randle.

It doesn't matter what anyone thinks. JJ's career at LSU is over.
Let's quit debating a player that will have no impact on this team, and discuss the guys that will help LSU win ball games.

Yeah, I'm glad so many on here didn't start calling the OC "The Wizard" after the first game a few years ago.

I very much agree with this assessment. Our O looks so much smoother than last year. Lets hope it continues (and I think it will).

Also I noticed personnel packages were changed with the play clock in the mid 20s and Lee was looking at the defense in the mid teens. Which allows for shifts and sight adjustments to be routine and not rushed

This is a huge change and much needed. Last season we weren't lining up until under 15 seconds left on the clock most of the time.

The next two weeks will tell us way more, while I am pleased so far there is alot of room for improvement.

Its also really nice to have 2 qbs that look in complete control of the game.
Complete a few passes, score a few points and make first downs.

It is interesting to note the Maryland had to settle for 5 field goal attempts in the game. Does that seem familiar??
