LSU's and Bama's defenses that year were the best two defenses I have ever seen in CFB

Yep....

The 2011 team may have had the best defense in the history of CFB....sad they will never be recognized as such because of the do-over game.

Haven't heard anyone say anything about Special Teams. We need improvement in a big way.

that 2011 defense may be a Top 5 all time NCAA defense

TRUE... it is just woefully unfortunate that one of the other Top 5 All Time teams occurred in that same year and we faced them twice.

It seems that everyone forgets about JJ performance that year. Our defense and st won more games for us than our offense.

Amen; There were times when our offense didn't show up and had to be awakened by the defense. It was never vice versa

DE - worse
DT - push (Loc and Godchaux will make it to the league like their predecessors)

You have it backwards IMO. Brockers and Logan were elite, and still starting in the NFL today.

I think key can be mingo or better this year, and while Sam was hyped in college and never made it in the league he was still solid. I think between Neal and bower we see similar production.

DE- push
DT- worse

At DB obviously tyrann pushes that unit over the top, but across the board it's not so clear.

Claiborne > white (barely)
toliver > Simon (boundary corner)
Tyrann > anyone/donte (nickel)

Reid = Adams IMO
Taylor > Jefferson but there are
Some guys on the roster
That could make it a push

Dime is what makes the difference here for the 2011 squad: Brooks >> thomas. (But what about Fulton?)

Still lots of young studs that can tilt the over all talent edge to the 2016 backfield though: Fulton, S Smith, Monroe, greedy, Lewis.... Will be fun to do this at the end of the season

Defense should be good, but it will take a lot to show the dominance of 2011. They will have to show the ability to get to the QB and cause turnovers like 2011.

Offense is better. QB was questionable in 2011 too, but we have a better OL, WRs and RBs this year.

Special teams are the big drop off. The Honey Badger single handedly changed the momentum of the Arky and SEC champ game on ST. I keep hoping Adams can be that guy. He's a great player, but you can't replace what Matthieu contributed.
