Les Miles can't be good at recruiting. He's not good at anything, according to some of the douchebags on this board.

Don't forget UCLA.

Only people who come to LSU solely because of the name or kids that grew up in Louisiana loving the school. Miles et al are very good recruiters.

From a fans perspective LSU may not have been playing at a high level the last two seasons. Fortunately for Les and his program the players arent idiots like many of the fans and recognize LSU is a place where they can go to progress as a football player.

With all that is set up here at LSU I think a coach would have to be incompetent not to be able to recruit a top-15 Class here in this day and age.

Top 10 IMHO is achievable with competence and talented assistants.

But you still need some skill and good recruiting to get in that Top 3 range, which - at least according to imperfect star rating systems etc. Miles has acchieved in half the years he's been here.

So I'll give the guy above average as a recruiter.

I have issues with him in other areas but not really this one.

me personally think saban recruits for his defensive schemes, and then gets the best talent that he can get at rb,ol next. miles on the other hand recurits a hell of a lot of dl,rb,db,wrs. then moves the dline to the oline.it should work cause most dlinemen are better athletes than olinemen but most of the time it doesnt go as well.he still is our coach so i will pull for him regardless.

Curley Hallman, Gerry DiNardo, Nick Saban and Les Miles all got highly ranked recruiting classes. Are they all great recruiters, or were some of them riding the name of LSU to highly ranked classes in spite of themselves?

I would say the name 'LSU' probably accounts for 80% of the classes for all of them. Especially considering it is the only big-time school in a talent rich state. Also, the proximity to south Texas is a big plus vs. some of the land-locked SEC schools. I would say the Miles and Saban probably got more highly-ranked talent from non-traditional LSU areas than the others. Ware, Boone, Ferguson and Coleman were all big gets from other areas.

Its a little of both as stated before.

If we have two more seasons like the last two, I think top La. talent will start going elsewhere like it did during the 90's.

Some kids just want to play for a certain school but most of the big time talent looks for coaches that can get them to the next level.

LSU to a large extent recruits itself and Miles gets way too much credit.
