the teams ahead of them are all SOLID at qb (sanchez, bradford, stafford, tebow, daniel) and because of that I can't put LSU ahead of any of them.

So we are playing 1-on-1 football, with only the QBs out there? We are SOLID at running back, while Florida is not, so why shouldn't we be ranked ahead of them? We are SOLID at offensive line, while Georgia is not, so why shouldn't we be ranked ahead of them? We are SOLID on defense, while Missouri is not, so why shouldn't we be ranked ahead of them?

Not to mention that we've already accomplished, primarily on the strength of our quarterback who just doesn't measure up in your opinion, what no other school in the country has done...beat a top 10 opponent on the road.

dude you can't compare losing to arkansas and kentucky to ucla and stanford

Actually, I kind of would.

Yes, technically you can. You can jump off a bridge, too. Both are equally stupid things to do, however.

We're right about where we would hope to be. If we can beat Fl and Ga we can rise. If we don't, what does it matter. We have to win it on the field. So, no, we are not underrated.

True, but do you believe that 2 or 3 teams in the top 5 (at this time) are better than LSU.

I think that we are very closely matched to all of them and that we have to play two of them during the season. If we win out - maybe even drop one during the reg season you would have to think we'd be in the MNC.

1)USC-Has dominated in the first 2 games they have played

So did we. Sure, Appy State is not Ohio State, but Ohio State is sure as hell not Auburn, either. And they beat OSU at home, with OSU's best player out with an injury.

quote:

2)Oklahoma-The real number 1 in my book. The offense is killer and Sam Bradford is still maturing as a quarterback. The defense has held against the opponents so far

What top-5 ranked defense has their "killer" offense shredded for 23 points and 293 yards in one half on road? And Jarrett Lee isn't "still maturing"? As for the defense, what about giving up 26 points to Cincinnati impressed you? And it wasn't just mop-up points, either. It was 28-20 in the third quarter. They've allowed more yardage in each of their last two games, against a mid-tier Big East team and a winless team in the worst BCS conference, than LSU has allowed in any of its games so far.

quote:

3)Georgia-I'm not sold on the Bulldogs yet

Naturally. A team that actually HAS proven something by going on the road and dominating a supposedly quality opponent, and you're not sold on them yet. But OU is the "real number 1" based on beating up on Chattanooga and a couple of crappy teams from weak conferences.

quote:

4)Florida-At this point I think the Gators are better than us.

At least they beat the crap out Tennessee on the road and handled a mediocre Miami team pretty easily, which puts them at least ahead of the likes of Oklahoma. If Auburn lays the wood to Tennessee this week, will that have any impact on your evaluation?

at half time last saturday people were in meltdown mode because we didn't have a quaterback who could complete a pass.

One half of football later and people think we deserve to be # 1

ever hear the expression:

your not as bad as your last loss, nor as good as your last win.. lets just play the games and let the chips fall as they may.

Thank you. I'm glad there is some people that get it. We played like crap for half of the game and we played well the 2nd half and suddenly we should be number 1. Right.

we have made it through only 4 weeks of the season, and you are already talking like we are being robbed at a shot for the bcs title

No, I'm acting like we are ranked lower than we should be, based on what we've accomplished so far. Because we are.
quote:

let the season play itself out, and if we get hosed at that point, then you can start bitching.

Thanks for your permission. If LSU is ranked lower than we should be next week, I will point it out. Where we are this week will impact where we will be next week regardless of how we play next week. If you are ranked #5 and lose (or win), you will be ranked higher than you would be if you were ranked #15 and lost (or won). The reverse is true for #5 and #1 or #2. The same principle will be in effect again the next week, and so on until BCS bids go out. The myopic belief that this part of the season is meaningless and everything will just magically happen correctly in the end is ridiculous, and has been consistently disproven in past years.
quote:

LET THE SEASON PLAY ITSELF OUT

Who is suggesting that we stop the season now and declare a national champion? Is discussion of the national championship banned until January? If you don't want to talk about it, then you are welcome to shut the frick up, but I will continue to talk about it as I see fit.
quote:

2004 was a rarity
And could easily recur if poll voters continue to rank some teams higher than they should be and some lower than they should be. If Michigan hadn't thrown a last-play TD against Penn State in 2005, an undefeated Penn State, USC or Texas would have been left out of the NC game. If USC hadn't lost a shocker to UCLA in 2006, Florida would have been left out of the NC game despite having a better record than USC against a tougher schedule. It's not that far-fetched. Positioning in the polls EVEN IN PRESEASON, let alone NOW, is important. You're a fool if you think otherwise.

Then make a better case for four teams that should be ahead of us.

TOO early in the season & WAY too many games left to be played....if they take care of business, everything will fall into place.

NEXT UP: MISS STATE!

who cares? let's play a couple of more games before we start whining about how we're disrespected and under-rated.

Nuts4LSU, what is your deal my man. you are getting way too worked up over a poll in the first quarter of the season. i'm willing to bet everything i own that we play for the national title if we finish the season undefeated. i never thought i'd see the day when people get upset over ONLY being ranked 5th in the nation in week 4. i guess its' impossible to please some people. it's not like the teams in front of us haven't dismantled every team they have played.

1. USC traveled 4000 miles to detroy UVA, then came back home and throttled ohio st, the #2 team in the country who has been to back to back bcs title games

2. Oklahoma, while they haven't played anyone yet, has scored over 50 points in every game. we will see what they're made of very soon when they play top 25 teams in 3 of their next 4 games

3. UGA has won an sec road game, a road game in arizona, and are still undefeated yet have dropped from 1 to 3. they have more reason to complain than we do

4. Florida. have you watched any of their games? they look as unbeatable as anyone this season.

so now i ask you. why do you think we are being underrated when we have dominated one half of one game? i think we are exactly where we should be right now. we still have issues at quarterback. yes, it is just one position, but it is the most important position on the football field. maybe you are one of those people who thinks the defending champion should be number 1 till they lose. if that's the case, i guess there will be no convincing you otherwise.
