2000, 2002, 2004, 2008 and 2009 were avg years.....sabans 2000, 2002 and 2004 were on par with miles 2008 and 2009.

PAC10 dynasty maybe, not nationally. When 50%, of MNCs, over dbl nearest competitor, come from one conf in a decade, I'd have to give the nod to one of it's members.
Prolly cough, cough, UF,.. cough, cough, due to finishing the decade stronger than LSU.
Many teams have faced top tier SEC with shiny records and got back on the bus tarnished, wondering wtf?

You need to take care of that cough. Saban got his arse beat 2 times by Spurrier in 2000 & 2001 giving up over 500+ yards per game. And then he lost to fricking Ron Zook in 2003...couldn't even score 1 Offensive TD.

LSU was in contention for the team of the decade prior to 2008. You can look at years prior to the NC seasons if you choose but it really don't matter. LSU could have gone 10-2 in those years and still wouldn't have finished the decade strongly enough to win TOD.

But he was able to finish a season with only one loss, Sandwich.

Please explain how those years "Didn't really matter" when talking about team of the Decade.

Yes he had 2 good seasons at LSU. Even though the 2001 "SEC Champs" were 5-3 in the SEC. Seems to be a double standard on teh Rant.

Had LSU gotten UF in the 2001 SECCG, instead of Fat Phil, Spurrier would have beaten the snot out of that Saban coached team, as he did earlier in the year & the year before..

Like I said.... prolly UF, team of the decade. LSU would be next. My yardstick being MNCs and both teams in the conf with by far most Crystal.

The thread was LSU Football and I'm not sure how this became about Tricky Nicky.
He got one and the Hat got other, unanimous.

No -- a dynasty dominates other competitors. LSU and Florida were the two most successful programs in the 90's with USC, Texas not far behind.

Perhaps had he taken over a program that had won 9 games the year before he was hired, and perhaps a national title the year before that and had he replaced a coach that left for the NFL and left the program in solid condition, maybe he would have been able to win more than 8 games his first season. We sure as hell weren't picked to win the West his first season.

Instead, Saban took over a program that had lost 15 games the previous two years before he was hired with the entire coaching staff having their employment terminated. Saban had lots of work to do.

Maybe, maybe not. I mean, he did take over a program that DiNardo couldn't keep from losing 8 in a row in 1999. That's a helluva feat. Hopefully we won't have that repeated.

Oh, I don't think there is any doubt that LSU got the best match-up possible when UT upset UF back in 2001 to get into the SEC champ game. UF had beat us by a combined score of 85-24 in 2000 and 2001 including a 44-15 arse woopin in Baton Rouge that year. LSU would have gotten run off the field by UF in the 2001 SEC champ game. No doubt about that...

the reason it became about nick saban was because someone mentioened LSUwasn't quite the team of the decade in the SEC because even though both they and Florida won 3 SEC Titles and 2 National titles, Florida won more games this decade. then the discusiion devolved into whose it fault it was LSU didn't win enough games for team of the decade- Saban or Miles.

dynasty, no.

best team in the nation in that time, yea.

2 ncs, ten bowls (4 bcs).

certainly some years where we could've won more games and done better, but football is a sport. sometimes people forget that you lose sometimes in sports. win when you should lose, and lose when you should win sometimes.

Les has been blown out in only 5 out of 66 games, that's strong. Nick underachieved in 01, 02, and 04, but that doesn't discount the record he put together.

last CFB dynasty was Nebraska 94-97. Before that Miami in 80's and Alabama in 70's.

No dynasty in the 2000's

Now if we had won that Auburn '06 game...

Please tell me that Bama isn't considering putting up a statue of Saban.

Disagree. While they had one more national title than FSU (they split with Michigan in 97; FSU had outright titles in 93 and 99) FSU was far more consistently great- 14 straight years of top 5 finishes (1987-2001). Before Osborne won his first title in 94, he had not had a top 10 finish since 88 nor a top 5 finish since 86. While I agree Nebraska was a dynasty, so was FSU.

Agree. USC was very close, but last year and their failure to win more than one BCS title doomed their aspirations to dynastyhood (is that even a word, 'dynastyhood'? If its not, it should be dammit, and I'm gonna use it!)

Of course we are. all 5 coaches who have a national title at Bama get statues.
