I love les and love whats going on at LSU right now, but I don't see how anyone can say that he's proven to be anywhere close to the "best" coach in the country. When it comes to in game decision making, I have not been impressed. Everyone makes mistakes, but come on... in almost every defining late game situation, we have either gotten lucky or blown it BIG TIME. Even when we've won those types of games, the decisions leave me wondering what the hell he was thinking.

Secondly, Les has had some GREAT recruiting classes, but given the circumstances, I'm not sure that makes him a great recruiter. We're in a hotbed of talent, and we're the only big time program in this state. I truly believe that LSU recruits itself when we're winning, and because of that its nearly impossible to prove that any coach is a great recruiter here. However, I will say that it probably proves that he's not a bad one. Not trying to hate; he could be a great recruiter, I'm just saying that its really hard to prove this when you walk into a program that is one of the nation's best.

Dont get me wrong, I'm rooting for the guy and hope the success continues. I just can't understand what everyone is seeing outside of "results" that even puts him in this discussion. And history has shown that sometimes, poor coaching wins and great coaches lose. So I think if your argument is purely based on his results, you should take a little deeper look.

I will admit, though, that if it weren't for some HUGE brain farts, I would most likely be on the other side of this argument.

I love having les as our coach, but he's not quite there yet. The "best college fb coach in America" doesn't let 1/9 happen.

I think he can get there though. He seems to learn from his mistakes.

His results prove that and I don't see how any sane/rational fan can think otherwise.

Perhaps not the best, but you don't go 75-18 which is the best among BCS schools since 2005, 43-17 which is best in SEC, 3 West titles which is the best, 2 SEC titles which is the equal of any SEC program, 5 11 wins years which is the best in the SEC, 5 Top 8 finishes which is top in the SEC, and reach 2 BCSCGs in 5 years if you are not one of the top 3 to 5 coaches in the nation.

All of the above results obtained during a period when the SEC is by far the best college football has to offer.

I have to wonder what LSU football team some have been following the last 20 to 30 years if they don't know that we have NEVER had as period or coach with such freaking elite success.

msmil46 post above yours spells it out in completely rational and realistic terms. Try reading context not just numbers.
