Ya'll need to put down the crack pipe and face reality. Leslie is not a great coach. He's at an amazing school with unlimited resources. He doesn't have to recruit, LSU recruits itself. Tiger Stadium on a Saturday night in front of 92,000+ speaks for itself. You don't need Leslie to tell a recruit to come to LSU once you experience that. Leslie rode Saban's coattail his first couple of years, and now he'll NEVER win a National Championship without Saban's players. Book it!

I agree with the first part... not a great coach, but not a bad one either. However, I actually think our program is so good right now that we could win another championship with a mediocre coach. Regardless, he will be here for 15 if he chooses... what coach would come here if we fired a guy that took us to 2 championships..
If this isn't that big of a deal, why are you writing multiple page-long comments trying to downplay it?

So say I wanted to mail his arse a letter... this is what I would put on the outside of the envelope?
I will admit, though, that if it weren't for some HUGE brain farts, I would most likely be on the other side of this argument.
I love les and love whats going on at LSU right now, but I don't see how anyone can say that he's proven to be anywhere close to the "best" coach in the country. When it comes to in game decision making, I have not been impressed. Everyone makes mistakes, but come on... in almost every defining late game situation, we have either gotten lucky or blown it BIG TIME. Even when we've won those types of games, the decisions leave me wondering what the hell he was thinking.

Secondly, Les has had some GREAT recruiting classes, but given the circumstances, I'm not sure that makes him a great recruiter. We're in a hotbed of talent, and we're the only big time program in this state. I truly believe that LSU recruits itself when we're winning, and because of that its nearly impossible to prove that any coach is a great recruiter here. However, I will say that it probably proves that he's not a bad one. Not trying to hate; he could be a great recruiter, I'm just saying that its really hard to prove this when you walk into a program that is one of the nation's best.

Dont get me wrong, I'm rooting for the guy and hope the success continues. I just can't understand what everyone is seeing outside of "results" that even puts him in this discussion. And history has shown that sometimes, poor coaching wins and great coaches lose. So I think if your argument is purely based on his results, you should take a little deeper look.
Personally I feel like there are more than a few coaches out there that could have similar results with this program since the saban era..
