Interesting thought but lets think about new contracts during this offseason for the NFL.

Now I'm not sure about Clyde's contract but if he hasn't signed seems like he has a lot more leverage now that the other running back is sitting out this season and taking the $150,000.
Lets say in any case you have an average player who makes good NFL minimum salary but not fantastic he has a relationship with a star guy or rookie who is at the same position about to sign a contract for this upcoming season. In this example case its a veteran or a guy about to start a family who could use a year of rest so why the hell not arrange an under the table deal with the said star to sit 2020 out give said star leverage to sign an even bigger deal and get paid while resting up?

Just spitballing its been a hell of an offseason

What "leverage" are you talking about? He's a rookie and is tied into the rookie contract/pay scale as called for in the CBA. He can't really negotiate anything. He either signs it or not

I understand but no contracts are non negotiable and forget rookie deals for a minute I'm just generally referring to contracts by other players where depth can help a player and his contract become more important for the club to get him signed.
Saying that obviously that is Leverage.

Then the backup blows up, the starter loses his job PLUS a prime earning year in the 3+ year average career length. These players have to worry about their specific situation and not about some convoluted scheme to hook their buddy up.

These situations are what gives me hope this covid overreaction will end sooner rather than later. Your average NFL player isn't impressed by that $850 weekly unemployment benefit like your average American is. These players have a finite number of years to make the huge money they do. Logic dictates they will raise holy hell to end this bs.

No rookie can “leverage” for a bigger deal than they are slotted. Their is a rookie pool of cap space designed for rookies. Like previous poster said “ he either signs it or don’t sign it”. He is not getting any more money that what is slotted for that draft pick. This thinking is off if you think he can “leverage” his rookie contract bc the starter opted to sit out.

None of this matters anyway as he already signed his contract.

Yeah well forget Clyde I think everyone went in the direction that this topic had everything to do with him I was more or less suggesting any players that have a contract this particular offseason.
