If we have to rely on making those catches we are done. Regardless who our receivers are.

Well the Auburn guy made a similar catch just a few plays later.

It wasn't a good throw. Randle was wide open. If he throws it lower, it's an easy completion.

But not being a good throw =/= uncatchable.

And I don't think it would have been a "miracle catch" like people are saying.

Let him know we are all pulling for him and all the Tigers (JJ and JL included). Need to put this behind them and get ready for next week. Auburn will not go undefeated.

This.

In this situation and on the throw previous to it, he shouldn't have been put in that position. He's proven to be inept in the pocket... why put him there?

Let him rollout. We're in FG range. If he gets 5 of the 8, may even be territory to go for it.

I totally agree, but even a bad QB can likely make a mediocre thrown in that spot with NO pressure. I would rather allow him to roll out because at least he makes a decent throw, but damn man....just make the throw once in a while and youre ok.

That was about 80% RR and 20% JJ.

OMG. A wide open receiver elevates and almost makes a catch, and you say it is 80% RR.

You make it sound like it all went downhill after that. We were tied up in the 4th and had plenty of chances to win.

(sigh) I, in no way want to pin this loss on any one person. JJ performed as well as he has this year. JL did not. OL did not. Coaching was questionable.

This thread started out about the INT. IMHO, that play was 90% JJ fault. It was also a big negative play.

This ball is caught 10% of the time by the best college WR's, IMO.

Did JJ throw it too high?

Yes he did.

Could Randle have caught it? It was possible, not highly probably but even your picture shows it was possible.

But here's the kicker. In today's Advocate, RR didn't take any shots at all at JJ for the throw. Instead, he blamed himself and said he waited for the coaches to call his number again. And when they did, he delivered.

LINK

quote:

One opportunity missed led to another one wide receiver Rueben Randle seized in LSU’s 24-17 loss at Auburn Saturday.

He still would’ve liked the first squandered chance back, though.

Although Randle had a solid day with a career-high six catches for 73 yards, he didn’t come down with Jordan Jefferson’s third-down pass inside the AU 20-yard-line in the first quarter, the ball caroming off his hands and into the grasp of Auburn safety Zac Etheridge for an interception.

Following Etheridge’s 33-yard return, AU turned the turnover into the first points of the day with a 54-yard touchdown drive and LSU (7-1, 4-1 Southeastern Conference) never managed to grab the lead.

LSU scored first in its first six games this season. Saturday marked the first time LSU never led, although it also never trailed by more than seven points.

“On the first drop, if he closes his hands, it’s not an interception and the feel of the game is completely different,” LSU coach Les Miles said.

Instead, LSU had to spend the rest of the day catching up and trying to stay even with Auburn. And Randle had to wrestle with the notion of letting his team and quarterback for the first three quarters

“The whole first half it was eating my alive, because I wanted to make another play for my team,” Randle said.

He got that opportunity.

With LSU down 17-10, offensive coordinator Gary Crowton dialed up a halfback option pass from freshman Spencer Ware, who took a lateral from Jefferson and delivered a strike to Randle. Randle caught the ball at the 10 and out-muscled Auburn cornerback Chris Davis to get to the end zone to finish a 39-yard touchdown pass.

“I was hoping the coaches would call my number again so I could get another chance to get in the end zone,” he said.

Someone should ask Tolliver how it felt to drop a perfectly thrown pass to a wide open receiver, namely him.

Yea, I pretty much believe that we as a group have come to this conclusion after this weekend. Hence why half the coaching staff is visiting with ZM today.

on the next drive? the only pass i see was the AU back that caught a ball thrown behind him. it is worth noting that his feet were barely off the ground, he wasn't fully extended, and there wasn't anyone waiting to knock his head off when he caught it.

Good thing we have one wide receiver on the team that can make that throw.

Yup... this is the throw that I was shocked was an INT. JJ definitely got lucky there and his luck ran out when he threw a high pass that RR couldn't quite reel in.

But to JJ's credit, he settled down after that and didn't throw any other possible picks that I can recall. And the most beautiful pass he threw all day was dropped by Tolliver.

you go for the catch when you are wide open.. and no he did not have enough to knock it down.. or even catch it for that matter.

that's not a catchable throw. Any football coach will tell you this.

we covered that. I think RR deserves props taking the blame when it wasn't his fault. I wonder if JJ was willing to take the blame as well. Apparently Les Miles had no problem blaming RR for it.

Of course I'd never expect Les Miles to blame JJ for anything, but throwing your WR under the bus is a dick move.

I don't remember where it was.

But I remember it was close enough in context that Danielson made the comment... "I bet Jordan Jefferson is wishing his guys would make grabs like that for him."

that's the one I am thinking about. I remember Danielson making the comment b/c my exact words were "WTF is he talking about?" it was a bad throw and a nice catch but nothing compared to the int.

on another thread someone said they were at field level and the ball wasn't even 8 feet high. i tried to make him realize the ball was 10 feet high but

i can't believe anyone who has played sports would say he should have caught that pass

Dude get over it that pick was on JJ. Randle did all he could to get to it, the picture shows that it wasnt "in his hands". randle was wide open no need to make him jump for that one. Hit him in stride and we might be up 7-0 on that play.
