30 years is too long a timeframe to be meaningful, but he's right that Washington was a premiere team up until the 1990s. Rose Bowl bids in '90, '91, '92; national championship in '91. Just a very successful decade.

Even in the early '00s, when Neuhisel was coach, they were a top ten team. Then they fell off a cliff. But the fans still remember when they were the top program in the PAC 10.

And I generally think that they are in a good position to be a premiere program again. They are the flagship university (many more UW fans than wazzu fans) of a pretty big state, and they are close enough to CA to be able to recruit from that talent-rich state. Their main recent challengers are the Nike millions down in Oregon, as well as the unexpected rise of Boise State to the east.
