The tackling has been absolutely atrocious. It’s one of the things we forget about after 7 months without watching.

I fully expect LSU to have the same problem all of these other teams are having. It’s been a major problem for us the last two opening games as well. I’m not falling for it again.

Well it was a major problem for LSU last year!

Huge problem in general anymore at all levels. It’s definitely frustrating, but I did see some good hits and tackles tonight.

I expect to see much better tackling than the past few openers.

I don’t think people fully realize how bad the coaching was on the defensive side of the ball

It's the penalties that really grind my gears.

Well, the tackling has gotten worse in football in general. With the limited area they have to hit now without drawing a flag. They could aim for a guy’s sternum, and if the target put his head down last second, it’s unsportsmanlike.

We can be better than last year. That actually wouldn’t be much of an accomplishment. I think being willing to tackle is half the battle. I think that’s where they will improve. These coaches will have these boys wanting to jump into the fire and make a tackle. Something I think was missing under House.

I just don’t think the players really respected House as a coach. They’ll respect Blake. They’ll put in that little extra effort because of it.

The problem (with everyone) is they want to either 1. Big hit (and if they miss) the guy bounces off and keeps moving forward. Or 2. Try to strip him and misses (and the guy still keeps moving forward) if they would go back to wrapping up and bringing the guy down there wouldn’t be as many “missed tackles”. But that’s just my opinion.

9.3.2011 LSU vs Oregon in Dallas.

Opening day.

Tackling was not an issue for LSU.

Miss the days of old, when Saban and Miles LSU defenses were ready from the get go. Nasty nasty defenses.

I never understood the use of 'anymore' in this way.

They don’t spend much time teaching tackling anymore.

Unfortunately, I think sound tackling is a thing of the past. Defender shows any hint of aggression and he will draw a targeting call and have to miss the next game.
