In 2012, LSU will have the best D-Line in America

TRY US!
AT DE:
BARKEVIOUS MINGO, 6'5 245, JUNIOR---SPEED DEMON
There is no other defensive end in college football that can chase down Oregon's LaMichael James from the far side of the field. If Anthony Johnson is a "Freak" at defensive tackle, this describes Mingo at Defensive End
AT DT:
BENNIE LOGAN,6'3 290 Ib., JUNIOR--ANOTHER SOLID NFL DT PROSPECT FROM LSU
Though he was overshadowed by Brockers a lot, Logan is arguably one of the most productive defensive players on the team. A force inside, he should solidify his spot as a starter in 2012, before possibly making a jump to the NFL.
AT DT: ANTHONY "FREAK" JOHNSON,6'3 310, SOPHOMORE
One of LSU's most highly anticipated D-line recruits, the freak should live up to his name as a starter after a solid freshman campaign. Has a motor like former LSU great Glenn Dorsey, but at this stage may be even better
AT DE: "SONIC" SAM MONTGOMERY, 6'4 250, JUNIOR
Has all the physical tools to become a prototypical first round Defensive end in the NFL. Made the decision to stay at LSU for his junior year and the Greenwood, SC native should give LSU a fast, athletic pass rush
Non-starters that will contribute big:
Sophomore defensive end Jermauria Rasco, Senior defensive end Lavar Edwards
As long as we stay healthy, this could be one of the most productive LSU defensive lines in history, maybe THE most talented overall. It would be AMAZING to see them all come back next year, but I assume that a few will leave for the NFL draft...

Mingo, Montgomery, and Logan are all gone after this year. But it'll be a great year.

I thought he was black?

It's really hard to debate this topic. Not only will the four you've highlighted play in the NFL, but our second and third teams are filled with pro-talent as well. I really hope we can stay away from injuries next year (although our backups are more than capable) because it is going to be a nightmare for opposing offenses.

So far it sounds like Ego is ahead of Johnson in the rotation. Doesn't really matter at this point but it does show Ego is making big strides

If that's the case it's probably a good thing since we know Johnson is no slouch

In general, I agree with your assessment.
We should learn a lot about Bennie Logan this year. He looked really good last year, but how much of that is a benefit from playing next to a stud like Brockers? It's a question you have to ask. We've seen it happen time and again (Dorsey and Tyson Jackson, for instance).
We also struggled to get a good pass rush with just our front 4 last year. We need to improve there. Lots of the sacks were racked up on guys just coming free due to confusion created by blitzes, which is great, but we saw against Alabama how when the blitzes are picked up, you need to be able to get after them with just your front.
Mingo is a freak of nature, and I'm guessing will be the highest player taken from this team (or last year's).
Sam is a really strong player that still needs to refine his game. He needs more pass-rushing moves. He does play with relentless effort and he's a bonafide run stopper.
Who plays the second DT spot is a big question. Freak showed flashes last year and he's the guy most of us expect to take the reigns, but Ego was a big recruit in his own right (Ego played way, way too high in the time I saw him last year).
Also, I think Justin Maclin will be heavily in the rotation. He's looked bigger and stronger in the videos I've seen.

I really hope Josh Downs can stay healthy, but I have my doubts.

Yeah, he's a nice body to have in the rotation. Unfortunate he's never been able to hold up.
I'm most excited about the depth.
We should have about 10 DL that are all worthy of seeing PT.

11 or 12 if you count Aghyere, Maclin or maybe Mickey Johnson.

I was counting Maclin
Montgomery
Mingo
Logan
Ego
Freak
Downs
Edwards
Maclin
Rasco
I don't know about Aghayere. Seems like he may be done playing. But I bet one of Mickey Johnson or Quentin Thomas get PT, maybe both.

How recent was the last 10 sack LSU player? Also, has lsu ever had two players with 10+ sacks in a year?

Where did you hear this from? Not trying to be an arse but this would be incredible news for our D-line depth if true. We really needed Ego to step up his game. He has all the talent...

he cant
sucks, but all he can do is provide short bursts of energy and QB pressure. really wish he could stay healthy because he has shown the knack for getting after the QB
