What amazes me is how Andrew Luck could graduate in engineering in 4 years and play football. The dude is crazy smart. Also Eric Reid got into the EJ Ourso college of business majoring in management with over a 3.0. Many will disagree but business at lsu ain't easy.

No, it would mean he talks like an uneducated moron. There is a difference.

There is a difference, absolutely.

That's not what the OP insinuated. He made recruits, like I said, I'm not talking about sports here, but those kids sound like that had nothing upstairs. Read the first thing in this thread.

That's what ticked me off. That's a condescending way to be. "Well, he doesn't talk like me, must be an idiot."

Come on.

Sounds to me you are trying hard to put words in the op mouth.
Get off your fricking soapbox.

I understand what you are saying. But do you not think that the ability to formulate and articulate your thoughts in complete, logical, semi-grammatically correct sentences is one pretty good indication of your intelligence? Some of those kids on TV today struggled to communicate on the most basic level. Some of that is probably attributable to the nerves of an 18-year-old speaking live to a national audience, but the fact remains that most of them would not be admitted to their schools of choice without the benefit of being really good football players.

I don't care what it sounds like to you.

These guys (and I'm talking about most of the recruits I'm seeing on ESPNU) can barely speak proper english and have so many other things to worry about other than classes

Nah, I'm good. Thanks though. I'll speak my mind as I see fit.

That's a stupid way to talk about other people.

I agree with you. It was just a bad way to phrase it, if that's what the dude meant.

No one is better than anyone else, just because they have a different way of talking. Yeah, I'm making a mountain out of a molehill and the OP has signed off, but still, I wanted to voice my opinion.

Ahhh I get it.

How about this, "It's a childish and egotistical way to talk to others because they don't talk like you or I?"

Better?

I thought Luck's major was architecture.

And fwiw, LSU's football players generally do better academically than 2/3 of the SEC programs.

This^

That is something that Im extremely proud about with our sports and academics. We do a shite load better than most of the other schools in the country, minus Stanford, Duke, etc.

I recall several years back, an academic advisor from a major college, stated he could keep a "cockroach" eligible for 3 years. I assume thats the way the system works.

Going on the farce that the top athletes are playing division 1 football for a free education is a bad start, but ....

You manage multiple ways -

1. Balance the workload of classes so that the harder classes requiring more effort are taken during the spring.

2. Have athletes take their classes at the right time and with the right professor.

3. Require them to spend time studying and completing assignments

4. Tutor, tutor, tutor, tutor - this can cover a lot more ground than you think. One on one attention is so much better than in a group setting. You can address the specific needs of that person, not every learns the same. In the worst case you can work on memorization to just get past the next test.

The ability to speak is not a clear indication of intelligence. I've know many people that sound like idiots when they speak, but are actually a lot smarter than some people who are much more eloquent. Frankly, it isn't like LSU is that hard to begin with. I spent more time drinking than I did attending class and still had a decent GPA - and I took and passed some of the harder classes at LSU.

I used to tutor athletes and believe it or not the football players were the ones that gave me the least trouble. They may not be able to speak proper English, but they aren't as stupid as most people think....and they also aren't taking the hardest classes.

Also, many of them are just trying to stay eligible -- that's their goal, unfortunately.

Take 12 easy hours when your goal is to just make a 2.0, combined with a full staff of tutoring is not that hard.
