If you're Chavis, what do you do defensively to stop/slow down Cam Newton? What do you take away - the running or the pass? I would want to stop the run as that is where he seems to do the most damage. What do you think?

Tell KS to find out what brand of gum Newton is chewing.

Have JJ sit in the box with you so he can't turn the ball over.

I told the hubby during the Aubbie/Hog game that I hoped Chavis got the day off from the LSU gameday, just to sit and watch their game live so he could get a feel for in the minute playcalling against Cam and then start planning immediatly...

disclaimer: it was a joke.

the key to the game is simple. lsu's front four must control the line of scrimmage. sheppard an baker must control there aggression an not over pursue.these are keys to controling fig newton.

He cant pass. Stay disciplined. Make sure your LBs read the option. If he is forced to throw, this ballgame is over.

The run. Gotta stop that and in doing so, bring pretty constant heat on him so that when he does pass, the rush is there. We'll have to leve it up to our DB's to play good coverage. I was impressed with how bad both AU and ARK Defenses looked yesterday.

The D-Line will have to be very disciplined when rushing Cam Newton. They are going to have contain him & not allow him running lanes.

They need to make him beat them with his arm & not his legs. So far he's shown that he is an average passer but he can rip a team's heart out with his running.

$hit, he'll rip it out & run over it while heading for the endzone.

Spy him. Have to play a lot of Man Defense and MUST be physical at the line against their WR's. AU's routes don't open up, then Cam gets happy feet..and you know the rest.

Coverage is how you get to him. Blitx too much and he will make you pay with his legs. Inside stunts and coverage sacks are key here.

Just contain him. Their whole offense revolves around him running. It works but it sure is gross. Like watching VaTech when Vick was there. Hit him hard a few times and you never know what could happen.

Stop the run 1st.Our dbs can cover their recievers most of the time. We'll have a few breakdowns i'm sure but not enough to lose the game.Have to be careful with the blitzes. If he gets by the blitzers he'll have a lot of open field to run.Going to have to spy him some on blitzes. Our DL and LBs are going to have to listen to their coaching. Can't get out of position.Trust that Chavis has a plan.Too much speed on defense for their other weapons to hurt us too bad but Newton is a little different.Make him throw at our dbs.If he beats them then we'll just have to give the guy credit.
