Valentine at NT Bower and Herron at DE Beckwith and CG3 at MLB Feist and Jones at OLB White and Paris/Robinson at CB and Adams and Jefferson at S looks pretty stacked already without mentioning any of the incoming recruits.

I think we have some personnel to run a 3-4, but Steele should run a 4-3 for next year. Plus Bama's defense may be considered a base 3-4 but they line up 4-3 more than 3-4

We cannot move to a 3-4 this year. Don't have the personnel for it. Period.

Bama had 4 down more often than 3 this past year FYI.

I know would like to see Beckwith and CG3 on the field at the same time.

4-2-5 or 4-3 or 3-3-5, or hybrid 3-2-6 dollar package, should be all that we run

Godchaux can play DE. He is fast enough...hell, he made more downfield tackles than Welter this year it seemed.

Is Steele's defense an attacking defense? LSU could hardly get to the QBs under Chavis.

For everone that always brings up the 3-4 stuff, think about this, Do we have the Huge physical LBers to run this? No, but where is our strength? Secondary is the answer, so put an extra DB or 2 on the field to maximize the potential of the D.

can't agree with that enough especially for our personnel.

Yea but the Line isnt the question its our Linebackers. We dont have the big physical Linebackers for 3-4. Plus you take away an extra DB which we need. The game is moving to more spread and 3-4 isnt very good against spread.

You have to be big and athletic up front in a 3-4

I hope we stay 4-3. We don't have the personnel to run a 3-4. It would be a disaster in transition.

Valentine hasn't played a single snap at NT and is much better suited as a 3 technique in a 4-3 than a NT. It'd be a waste of his athleticism to put him as just a guy to eat up blocks.

Bower

Needs to put on about 30 lbs to even be considered as a 3-4 DE. Would get shoved around like Oregon's Dline did.

Herron at DE

Solid 3-4 DE IMO, but he hasn't been able to see the field. Kind of worrisome. Plus, this leaves out Godchaux and Lacouture who are two experienced Dlinemen.

Beckwith and CG3 at MLB

Not bad, but not great.

Feist and Jones at OLB

Need guys like Lewis Neal, Teuhema, DE types to blitz out of the 3-4.

We better stay 4-3 IMO, which is what Steele was at every stop except Bama.

IMO, we should lineup like this:

DE- Bower
DT- Valentine
DT- Lacouture
DE- Godchaux/Neal

OLB- Riley
MLB- Beckwith
OLB- Jones/Louis

CB- Robinson
CB- White
SS- Adams
FS- Jefferson

So why wouldnt Valentine in a 3-3-5 or 3-2-6 be fun to watch as well?
We are a 4-3 based team, always have been always will be IMO. The 3 man fronts are hybrid to get out athletes on the field, which is good in situations...

If more 3-4 packages are around the corner, I'm curious if the monster-sized Ponchatoula OG commitment isn't earmarked for a look at 3-4 NT as well.

If we go to the 3-4 then I would move Melvin Jones back to defense. I think he and Beckwith at ILB would be pretty solid.
