Well of course it is. The reason why we don't throw long passes, is clearly because Nuss doesn't have time for his receivers to run 40+ yards. Nuss has to pick shorter patterns. This oline is extremely weak in all areas, and you will see just how bad they are at picking up twists and delayed blitzes this week, as some of them just stand there and watch the rusher run right by them....ole, except they don't even see them enough to say ole!

It seemed like he ran more last week than he did the entire 2024 season

He still doesn’t do it enough but he’s definitely not the same guy

I agree. I think it’s something they’ve been trying to get him to do for a while.. take the easy yards when they’re available. If he’s been hurt since fall camp I can certainly understand why he was hesitant to start the season, but he looked much more willing to run against Southeastern (which wouldn’t make a ton of sense unless it’s something they’ve been pushing him to do).

I don’t need the entire offense to hinge on his legs but he’s more than athletic enough to scramble for 9-10 yards and get down.. preferably with a slide. If he can do this even a couple of times a game, it’ll keep defenses honest and (hopefully) open up more downfield opportunities when he leaves the pocket.

Same can be said for pulling it on a zone read when everyone crashes, but at this point I’m not convinced we actually run zone read. It’s just hard for me to believe that he’s gone all this time ignoring the read without the coaches flipping out, unless there simply is no keep option on those calls.

I don’t see any scenario where Nuss has 10+ carries against OM, but I don’t think we need or want to utilize him that way anyhow.
