But the perception from most qualified candidates would be that booting Miles (with his accomplishments at LSU) is a little severe and they may balk at the opportunity
Depends on the coach. Any good coach would look at all the dumb things Miles has done and laugh. In fact, I would even argue that if Miles can win here in some capacity that a legit coach could be very successful.
If they are scared, they don't need to bother interviewing.

As for Tennessee, I don't know who was interested, but they hurt themselves by waiting too long to get rid of Fulmer so that whoever replaced him had a long and difficult rebuilding job to do. Miami didn't wait as long to fire Coker, but still probably waited a year too long.
This is what worries me....that Les wins just enough games to stick around for a few more years, all the while LSU falls further and further behind Bama and Florida.
I have nothing against Miles as a person. It seems to me that he is a nice man and a good person. However, LSU doesn't pay him $4 million a year to be an upstanding pillar of the community. He was hired with the expectation of winning games and competing for championships. If it gets to the point where he is no longer able to do these things, then LSU must make a change before it gets too late.
Hopefully, Alleva would do the right thing and pull out all the stops to bring in a top notch replacement.

some up and coming coaches
1) Skip Holtz - Got maximum value out of the talent that he got at ECU, even though he just signed with UCF, im sure that to buyout his contract that LSU wouldn't have to make it rain to the caliber of Pacman Jones
2) Paul Rhodes (Iowa St.)- Finished 7-6 last year with about the same talent level as Ricky Bustle. He's a great defensive mind and really is passionate about the game (see LINK) Guy has coached in the SEC and surrounded with good coordinators, could be special
3) Mike Reilly (Oreg. St.)- Another guy who squeezes ever last drop out of the talent that he gets in the state of Oregon, which isnt nearly Louisiana. Turned Sean Canfield into a pretty good player and at least made OSU relevant.
4) Greg Schiano (Rutgers)- Would be kinda hard to get him being how loyal he is to the guidos, but the guy is a winner and money talks, bull s**t walks. But, even though it was in he big east, the guy, when he had ray rice was a big time winner, minus that one trip to the tire bowl. Plus he would add that Mafioso persona to the sidelines
5) Jim Leavitt- Guy brought South FL. from a big east urinal to actually being relavent. Fired because he choked some kid, but built the USF program from the ground up, could develop some of lsu's talent into the next matt grothe or bj daniels and the asking price wouldnt be outrageous.
I hope that Miles does win enough to stay the coach at LSU, no one denies that he has some serious issues to manage. Lets all hope for the best, but this may be more along the lines of what alleva looks at as far as people willing to move up the coaching scale. Good luck to coach miles though, hope that this thread is a moot point in a few years

One other thing regarding this topic that continually pisses me off...always the 800 lb. gorilla in these threads is Saban.
I would be willing to bet that as many as 50% of the individuals who read and respond to these threads think, somewhere in the recesses of their minds, that Saban would actually come back to LSU if Miles were fired or left for another job like Michigan.
It ain't gonna happen...

I'm in love with the idea of pat fitzgerald here

Steve Sarkisian. IDk if anyone put his name as I did not read through all five pages.

I like the idea of Fitzgerald, but it might be harder than we think to pull him away from Northwestern. He played there and seems to have a great love for the place. That, along with the circumstances that led to his hiring, would seem to give him a great emotional attachment. Maybe he's leave for the money and the opportunity to win championships, but I think it would be a tough sell.
On the other hand, I heard an interview with Gary Patterson a few weeks ago and he hinted that he would eventually leave TCU if the right offer came along. I think he'd be a great hire.
I also like Harbaugh and Muschamp. I don't think Bo would leave Nebraska for LSU, but I wouldn't mind him if he would take the job.

I just wish Gary Patterson hadn't signed long term with TCU. I would LOVE his defense in Baton Rouge.

Is Mike Leach really not on your list?? think about the athletes we have and what he could do with them.

I believe so to! he is working with the high school team where his son goes to school for some reason and I believe it is to get used to working with young people again. That is where it all starts with the high school kids.
I believe all the kids parents would love to see their sons go under a strong willed Coach that is a highly disapline type Coach. I would like to see John Gruden here at LSU if things do not work out or Les chooses to leave at the end of the year. I believe he would be much like Saban is and that is hands on in every aspect on the football field.

This has to be without a doubt, the stupidest, most dumbest thread EVER. The head coach for LSU is Les Miles. Here we are at the start of a new season, in the midst of recruiting and you start a thread about a coaching wish list?
This sends the wrong message to the players, recruits, and your team's opponents. You all are projecting an anticipation of a losing season so Miles can get fired and your fantasies come to fruition. What a band of fricking losers you are.

1. Saban's not coming back, but I still think he would have had LM left for UM in 2007.
2. Kudos to those of you who can spell Petersen, Jon Gruden, Gary Patterson, Tuberville. Those of you who mangled it, go back to Livingston Parish and stop pretending you went to college.
3. Del Rio was a legitimate candidate last time. LSU reps flew to Florida to meet with him. He bugged out because his owner flipped. He's walking on thin ice down there now and would be interested.
4. I wonder if Bobby Johnson would want to coach a team with some talent?

Amazing, 16 days till kick off, you guys still talking chit about replacing the coaching staff. Lets see if Curley is available, I remember those days, went to many games then, student tickets were just two bucks with your LSU I.D. Coach Miles and staff will have this team ready for the season, lets hope the fans don't bring them down with all this bull chit talk about coaching changes.

Why is everyone so sure of this? He's a coach in waiting. If something as premier as lsu head job comes knocking, I dont think he waits! He's an sec boy. I bet he would come here or Georgia if it came open
I do not endorse the current "Fire Les" mania. Even a season as modest as 9 wins puts him at 60 wins over 6 seasons which will make us look very silly at any interviews.
Having said that, should LSU win 10 games this season, but fall short of an SEC Championship, AND Les is lured away to his Alma Mater, Will Muschamp is the ONLY current assistant coach I can endorse hiring.
I am 90% certain he will accept the head coaching job at LSU (assuming it is not an insulting offer of $1.5 million or something like that) instead of waiting for the Texas job to open up. Texas has no bargaining power because they have no credible threat to fire Mack to keep Muschamp.

Coach Les Miles
Postgame Remarks
September 4, 2010
Atlanta, Georgia
Coach Miles: Well, that was a tough game. We prepared very thoroughly for this opponent. We studied them extensively. We game planned exhaustively. Our players competed hard in this game. But ultimately, we just couldn't overcome what some random people said on a fricking message board, and that's why we lost. Thanks a lot, anonymous bastards!

We don't really know. Most of Les' guys are just getting into the league. FWIW, Peterson will be the best pro we've had come out of LSU in a long long time. And guess who signed & developed him?
For having a top 10 class this many years in a row, that's not saying much. I have no doubt Peterson will do us proud in the NFL, but there ain't much else.

I read all five pages, and I remember the clamor to get rid of Charlie McClendon. It's like deja vu. "We'll never get past 7 and 3 each year. Why can't we beat Alabama? Three yards and a cloud of dust! Why doesn't he turn Bert Jones loose?"
Soooooo, we get rid of him and hire Bo Rein. A tragedy unfolds with his death, and the road to mediocrity is paved on into the next millenium. Do I think Miles needs to change? Damn straight I do! What will happen? I wish I knew, but I wonder if we will indeed be better off.
I do think LSU is a premier program for a couple of reasons. There is only one real big time college in the state. The recruiting base on a per capita basis is very good. The high school coaches are probably big LSU fans. There is money here for sports. The facilities are very good. AND, although you couldn't prove by the people on the Tiger Rant, there is great fan support.
As for who comes here whenever the present coach goes for whatever reason, I think its a pipe dream to think that Gruden, Muschamp, Pelini, and Jimbo Fisher will quit what they are doing and come here. I see Saban here before them. And who was Saban before he got here? From some accounts, nothing truly extraordinary. He had the makings of good caoch, but who knew how good? I knew more about Miles and Okla State than I knew about Saban.
The interesting thing about all these posts is that if you want Miles to do well or if you support him, you are somehow in league with mediocrity. Nothing could be further from the truth. I think this about him. He needs to win obviously, but he also needs to have his assistants looking like they changed, too. Short side field play drives me and 98% of the fans nuts.
This idea of playing for and winning a national title every year is delusional at best. Somebody needs a Prozac. What I do want is what I haven't necessarily seen in the last two years. We were tentative, confused, and outcoached in several games. I would bet that even if we have the same record now, but we had lost to Ole Miss with a wide right field goal, the criticisms wouldn't be as bad. The same thing goes for Bama. The interseption is valid. Lee comes in, and we die trying, but we still die. I want to be IN the game, not like the Hallman et al eras where you could go home in the middle of the second quarter.
Getting a new coach is like car shopping. Wouldn't it be nice if we could get .... Substitute your favorite name.

We all know that Miles is not the X's and O's kinda coach. He's not going to outsmart anyone, so he needs to have superb assistants, which he doesn't have on the offensive side of the ball. What I'd like to see is LSU playing up to the talent level that we know is there, but not being properly developed. Even if we lose to some top 10 teams, I'd like to see us in the game and we should be blowing out some of the nobody's, which we do not. The great teams beat us and the nobody's give us fits.

Mike Leach has a coaching style very much like Saban. He doesn't take crap from anybody, knows the game and is a risk-taker. It would be fun to watch.
