Only the #1 Seed gets this accommodation. So, In the link you gave, LSU would get to determine if they want to go to ATL or Arizona.

If teams hold out the year then I really believe the NCAA will push for a OSU/LSU matchup in the 1st playoff game! The only issue with that is that the championship could end up being a Bama/Lsu rematch. That would be a ratings jackpot for both weeks.

it’s really just the 1 seed that gets the advantage of location.
if by chance the 2 seed does as well, then great. If not, oh well. Because like you said it’s not always possible.

i took his example as a completely made up hypothetical (with this season’s locations) rather than specific to the current season.

Yes because Atlanta is closer to Columbus and #1 Ohio State will probably want to go to Atlanta.
I know it's just a defense mechanism by some people but this is why it's dumb people are acting like 1 or 2 doesn't matter. LSU really wants to be #1. It would be much better for LSU to play Oregon in Atlanta than Clemson in Arizona for a bunch of reasons.
First of all an easier opponent. Second it would be LSU's second game in a row in Atlanta. They'd be in a comfort zone. Lastly it's easier for LSU fans to get to Atlanta than Arizona.
