Terrible pitching!

Thanks for the fresh take.

Here’s the thing, you don’t have to “give him a break” for this season. Say the pitching staff has sucked and I promise no one will disagree with you. Say he had to do better, no one will disagree.
The issue is the people that want to fire everyone because the staff was bad ***this year***.

People seem to forget A&M essentially let Yeskie go for the same reason

I'm not sure if it's the majority opinion, but it's far from everyone.

This has to be the worst pitching staff in all of college baseball. How can other teams with way less talent, put together competitive pitching staffs? There is one common denominator here.
I refuse to believe that there isn’t one pitcher on the staff is just not talented enough to pitch in the SEC. Even Evans and Schmidt got progressively worse as the season went on. Well coached pitchers don’t get worse like all of ours did

quote:Except this isn't really true at all. Schmidt was up and down all season and only really had 3 bad outings in conference play. Ole Miss, where he was squeezed beyond belief which effectively ended his outing after he was dealing.
Even Evans and Schmidt got progressively worse as the season went on.
Texas A&M, where a good team but good bats on the ball.
UGA, where the best offense in the conference hit the ball well.
Evans never really had his best stuff outside of a couple outings. He had an injury and, shocker, didn't look good coming off injury.

What about the two years prior where everyone on the pitching staff got better as the year went on?
Criticism is warranted, but you can't just lie and ignore a lifetime of positive results because of one bad season.

He will get another year, but they need to strike gold on the portal.

exactly, and they are better for it

The common denominator is Yeskie. Are you trying to imply that he did a good job this season and it was all the pitchers fault?
It is possible to do a great job in one season and do a terrible job the next. He is responsible for the progress of these pitchers and he failed miserably this season.
We can do better

Just like ole miss “let”lane go and think they are better. Yeskies record speaks for itself. Was this a bad year? Yes but no one is getting fired.

No. Schmidt was about the same all the way though. But he went from pitching Sunday, where he was a great fit, to Saturday to Fridays late due to injuries. He was overmatched on Saturday and out of his depth on Fridays. He’s just wasn’t ready for that role.
If he were still starting Sundays, he would be just fine in that role.

Were they last year?

Sad day when we have to cherry pick one pitcher who was maybe the same as last season and would have been OK if he pitched on Sundays.
Schmidt is thought of as a first round MLB pick, not a Suday guy in the SEC.

He came in as a completely unprepared head case last year. He improved pretty tremendously over that. He went from being pretty much unpitchable vs SEC competition to a legit SEC starter. He didn’t make an Anderson jump, but he doesn’t suck. If he can make another step forward this offseason; then he should be more consistent and reliable next season.
As others have said, Fontenot definitely improved. Forget the numbers. He was basically at the end of the rotation last year. He went from that to one of the 4 most used relievers. He definitely increased his velo pretty tremendously.
Cowan’s numbers are off, but he’s still the same guy from last year. He didn’t regress and lose control and walk guys left and right like Rizy and Williams. The SEC just figured him out. And he was probably overused because of everyone’s struggles and then the injuries.
He was pretty much the only consistent pitcher we had this year. He was just guaranteed to leave one up at some point and get it hammered, but that also happened to him for a stretch near the end of the season last year.
