I knew he would be, wouldn't be surprised if he overtakes Claiborne.

Really? How did Mo do in the scrimmage? Looks like the recruiting sites missed the boat on Tyrann, and college coaches I guess. He wasnt a big time guy from what I remember.

Rivals had him the #1 cover corner in the nation fwiw. Was the only corner that could handle Landry at the UT clips I saw. Evidently, he's the real deal!

Has he been pretty physical out there?

Jaw, we have seen most of the upper classmen play a good bit, and know how they perform. People want to know how the freshmen performed because it was their first time competing with SEC caliber competition in game situations.
I totally understand this. I guess my previous comment indirectly or directly touches on this very point you made. We all know how the upper classmen play. And despite the sunshine and roses "improvement" mantra being chanted by those who will not look at reality, I'm not impressed by the slight "improvement" LSU showed from 2008 to 2009. Speaking for myself alone, I would be so stressed out by the end of each game last year, win or lose that I could not pretend this slightly better record was an improvement. Not after winning MNCs in '03 and '07. The drop in quality of play was totally unexpected but totally real.

Question if there is still a chance: Did JJ check down at the line? Did he make adjustments based on coverage?

No. In a scrimmage, the team runs the play that is called by the coaches. It aint a fu cking game.

Another's take on the scrimmage:

quote:

1. The kicking game is unreal. Jasper was kicking field goals from 67 yards before everyone came out on the field. He hit 5 of 6 from 60 yards.

2. Helton had some nice punts, but Wing is the real deal. He was kicking from the 20, and trying to kick out of bounds on the other 30. He was within 2 yards on about 10 kicks in a row. His hang time was about 5 seconds.

3. We have a very good D.
D-line can rotate 9 or 10 players without any drop off in talent. Mingo may be light, but he is oh so fast, and there will not be an off. takle in the league who can pass block him. He may be susceptible to running plays, but Chavis will have to protect him.
Line backers - Even without Baker, the lb corps was outstanding. Minter, Barrow, and Jones are all SEC ready.
DB's are the best in the SEC. It is really difficult to judge our passing game against this group. The pick 6 by PP was a wide receiver screen, that PP recognized and jumped the route. JJ's throw was on the money, and it is very doubtful that any other corner in the league would have recognized the play. Mo C. is the real deal. He can cover RR and TT as tight as anyone. Our safeties all looked good. Loston ran with the ones on several series.

O-Line was difficult to judge. We had a few sacks, but Chavis was bringing the heat today. Multiple times, when he thought it was a run, he would have 5 men with their hands in the dirt. This made running difficult at time, but all the RB's had some nice runs, including the freshmen. Russell Shep will not be a punt returner. Muffed 2 punts. PP was money in the return game, and may return 4 or 5 for TD's this year. The QB's did not have a great day passing, but there were 2 or 3 dropped balls by non starters, and we really didn't throw very much. Of the 22 passes, they were split between 4 QB's, and 7 and 8 did not complete many. I thought JJ looked the best . The option is still in the play book. Shep and Ware ran the wildcat.

Shep in the slot is a weapon that must be accounted for. Took multiple handoffs while in motion, then same formation and fake to him and he runs a short route. He will have 15 touches a game.

Barksdale is a beast. I was worried about him moving to the left side, but he will do well there. But Mingo could get around him, because Mingo is a freaking speed demon. If Chavis can pick his spots to put Mingo in, our sack totals this year will improve. I am not a coach, or a super knowledgeable guy, but these are my observations based on playing HS ball and watching college and pro ball for 40 years. I feel pretty good tonight.

I don't know where you got this summary of the scrimmage, but it's a lot more optimistic than any other I've seen. That one has me pumped up for the season to start.

Return one or two, and he'll never see the ball again.

I wouldn't kick it to him from day 1. I could only imagine trying to tackle him. A strong 222lb 4.3 truck is not something you want to face.
