One day people will just realize our defense is not very good. We have a mediocre defensive line, we have talented but young linebackers who are often confused and out of position, we have elite cornerbacks but our safeties are either hurt (Delpit) or they are just not good (all others). Some fault can be placed at Aranda’s feet for not having a great scheme to deal with our inadequacies, but the truth of the matter is that we’re just not as talented as we think, and the talent we do have is hurt.

You’re right. I think Chaisson, Queen and the entire defensive backfield took the 2nd half off.

Every game is different. Ole Piss had a good scheme against LSU and Aranda was slow to make corrections. Plus we overpursued and we’re sloppy in gap control. D actually played well in the first half, Part of the problem is when LSU gets big lead the D relaxes. Like O said, they need to play the full 60 minutes.

Correct, they do play a 4 man front but they had 8 in the box to try an force Ole Miss to beat them with their arm rather the run...

Miss State defense tried to look like LSU defense on 4th and 24, LOL.

Aranda is mailing it in and our D has no leadership.

Why? Miss State has a defensive coordinator, and they don't pay him 2.5 million!!!

MSU's front seven is better and more disciplined. I see nothing wrong with stating that. They were tough against us as well.

That last part is the real key. Go watch the big plays we gave up to Ole Miss. Our LBs and Stevens were chronically out of position and once Plumlee or Ealy cleared the hole it was over. They also missed a lot of one-on-one tackles. State played smart, stayed at home, and made Ole Miss work for their yardage.

Just cleaning up these kinds of basic mistakes and playing with some discipline would make our defense so much better.

This isn't State's team from last year. I know they play a 4 man front....but they don't play anything like Auburn.

Remember this- several of State’s best defensive players have been out most of the year due to suspensions. This is one of a few games when they were at full strength. They were not against us or Bama. That’s part of the reason why they looked really good last night.

Your are really going to take it hard when Aranda is here next year, the year after, and the next etc etc. O isn’t getting rid of Aranda dude so you might as well just let it go.

Utah st The last complete game this defense has played . Stunning but true Maybe they are about to peak?

I know State isn’t an offensive juggernaut, but they played pretty well from start to finish in that one. They kept Hill in check and forced their freshman QB to throw, which he can’t.

That’s still been several weeks ago and it was against a mediocre team.

Disagree on Shelvin. Agree on pretty much everyone else, including Chaisson, even though he’s technically a LB.

It is injuries and lack of pass rush. We are not quite as bad as you want to think. There is talent, especially at LB and corner. And Phillips is having a terrific year. BTW 11-0 Number one in AP and PA polls and Number two in Playoff slotting. Obviously Defense is good enough to get us to where we need to be.

Not everyone criticizing Aranda wants him gone. But damn, can we not expect him to tighten some of this basic, sloppy shite up and just get them playing more fundamentally sound?

They can't let it go. Not part of the corroded Negatiger DNA.

Well don’t lump the more reasonable among us in with him.

We are the worst defense of the top 4 across the board in every major statistic. I would just like to see our DC address that as best he can before the playoffs. There is nothing “nega” about that. Put that old shite to bed.

MSU has a very good front 7.

Part of the reason one of LSU's lowest point totals of the season was to State.

Plus, they were able to go to school on the LSU game film.

^^^

And MSU got several starters back from suspension, who made impact plays in the game.
