Kevin Sumlin was terrible and that team was soft as baby shite after his tenure, especially on defense. He was a flash in the pan who was propped up by Manziel. He also ended up not being a great recruiter, despite a few hits here and there.

Fisher has caused other problems, and he only made them worse pushing his chips to the center with this NIL-bought recruiting class, but he actually had A&M trending slowly upward for a few years and got their defense and strength and conditioning fixed. He also raised their talent level from where it was. Last year aside, he’s still been bringing in top 5-10 classes there.

2020 was where A&M really messed up. Giving Fisher an extension for that fluke season where nothing was normal and expecting those results every year was a big mistake. There was no reason to go as high and as far as they did with no other team bidding against them. Other than upsettling Bama last year, it’s all been rolling downhill since.
