Agreed adn I have never disagreed with that.
I think Miles is a great recruiter and manages the players well. That said, I wish he would relinquish control of the offense adn find someone competent.
I am just curious of what Petrino and Spurrier could've done. It's my opinion that Petrino would've had more success early on than Miles because the guy is one of the greatest offensive coaches in all of CFB. Whether Petrino would've had the recruiting success Miles had is what makes me wonder.

when was the last elite team (without major injury) in a year who regressed into playing for close games?
yes, upsets happen, but a complete backslide in philosophy (and production) isn't that common

we probably win in 06 with petrino but keep in mind he probably bolts to the nfl around 07 or 08.
i dont think about 05, you could make a case for 06 though.

I have no doubt that if we hired Spurrier back when he wanted to come here from Duke that we would've had UF's success in the 90s.
Okay, Mr LSU is the only school that does stupid stuff, you realize that Alabama, Southern California and Texas all had head coaching jobs open after the 1986 season, too? Passing on a guy who at the time was a good coach in the USFL isn't as of a bonehead mistake as some of you want to make it out to be.

What's wrong with playing hypotheticals? What else do we have to talk about? JJ sucks? Les sucks? Crowton sucks?
Hell while we are at it, go ahead and do a hypothetical for if Saban had stayed.
DO IT MOUSTACHE

You've brought up every loss in his career and looking for every possible crack in the foundation to subtly bash the guy.
I only bash him because the majority of our losses were because of his stubborness and bad decisions.
Ole Miss 09 was solely on Miles lack of an offensive gameplan and clock management.
I criticized him bad for begging hte cotton bowl to take us and assuming we were gonna lose to UGA before the 05 SECCG. That was a mistake.
I criticized him for having NO gameplan and trying nothing different against Bama. I will concede and say Bama was possibly the better team, so I won't say we should've won, but I can say that it should've at least been competitive.
Take it easy. Yesterday, I was a little over the top, but today I don't think I've done anything that should've gotten your panties in a wad.

True. That is one reason why Miles was probably the better hire because stability.

05 no coach was gonna win more than what Miles won.

Moustache, Slow and Lacour now. You three have to feel like you won the lottery Monday night.

I'm not saying LSU made a bonehead mistake there. Hell, nobody wanted Spurrier except his alma mater.
I'm just saying that I enjoy playing the hypotheticals, nothing more. It is my mere opinion that had we hired Spurrier, we would've had the same success UF had.

You call it backslide.
I call it just completely wrong and there was pretty much nothing he could do.
Why he didn't change anything, I have no idea and will never know.
The gameplan was shot from the beginning.
Like I said yesterday, I'm not defending Monday aat all. Not in the least bit. People have gone to far with the fanaticism. Lots of perspective missing from this board. I don't know why I expect it to exist.

Link to a coach that's NEVER had this problem. EVER.

Because we're upset with the loss and dare to criticize decisions made by the coaching staff?
Again, I'm not saying that Miles is a bad coach or that he needs to be gone or that no more than 2-3 coaches could've had the success he's had here.

i didn't speak for about 30 minutes at one point b/c i was so emotional about the loss, and i couldn't sleep
so, no

If Miles were more like SPurrier, he wouldn't have been afraid to stick with Lee or even go with mett this year.
I'm not saying that beats Alabama, but it makes it a lot more respectful and puts up more than 92 yards.

You need to step back and realize that what he has accomplished in 7 years is pretty amazing. Sure, there are times we can second guess. 2 nights ago was one of them. But overall, miles has been great for lsu and will continue to be great. The grass isn't always greener. Ask Tennessee.
This!
Nothing wrong with plugging coaches in to hypothetical situations, I guess. However, I will say that I am glad we don't have Petrino on our sideline! When I think of first class pricks in this conference he is the first person that comes to mind. And as far as Spurrier goes, I wish the powers that be would have hired him back when Arnsparger left for Florida in the mid-80's instead of listening to Arnsparger and going with Archer, but right now I really don't think Spurrier is what he once was.

he could've not handed the ball off to the fricking FB and gave up in the game.
He could've put Lee in.
I'm not saying that would've won the game b/c Bama played mistake free, but I guarantee it would've been more respected as an effort and not called the worst loss in a championship game by media. (although they tend to forget UF 95)

he may have asked for adjustments. there is someone they pay specifically to do this. i was weary of stud getting the promotion but it seemed krag being in the booth with him it may work out. and it did until the last few games. we won, but the offense looked shaky. lee not getting any snaps and what not. miles listens to his coordinators and he isn't the play caller. now he could and should have said "hey let's put lee in. no arguments." who knows really. but there is some blame to be shared on the coaching side and if krag is going to remain the QB coach then we need to let stud go back to the O line or find another school to be an OC and find a new OC.

we did change something, once he put in JJ and our entire offensive philosophy changed

I could give a frick if the coach is a nice person. LSU pays him to win football games and bring in money to the AD and the school. Who gives a shite if he likes bunnies and rainbows.

me too, but I can't fault LSU for missing out on him.

Dude he has South Carolina recruiting in the top 15 consistently and is leading them to 10 win seasons. Hell, 11 win season this year. Name another coach that could've done the same. I bet the list is probably shorter than 5 coaches.

Uh,no. Who isn't frustrated ? But the same ol' gang who relishes the opportunity to pile on Miles at any chance is rarin' to go.
But I'm not reflecting on how my life would have been better if LSU had hired Jim Harbaugh in 2005 nor saying "now,I'm not ready to fire him yet" ,either .
BIG difference.
