There has been talk of Pep, Logan, and Brockers all sliding inside. I'm not sure if that was more to provide depth or just that if they've outgrown DE. With a couple of big-time DTs who could see early playing time and provide immediate depth, do any of those stay at DE? Regardless, I hope we find a way to get our best 8 guys in the rotation.

I think Pep and Logan have to move inside, just don't see them producing at DE like we need them to.

Put a few lbs on Copeland, he will be a mainstay in the interior line for the next few years. Livingston seems more like an interior DL candidate as well.

you can never have too many defensive tackles in the sec. but i would think some will slide back over to de.

You could probably have d-linemen who play both DE and DT.

Levingston needs to be moved inside I think. Brockers could be moved inside, he's gonna be pushing 290 or 300 by the time the season starts.

Most of these guys will be redshirted anyway, so I would move only one or at most two guys inside. A Downs, Davenport, Nevis combo next year should be deadly.

Could Chavis be preparing to go to a 3-4 scheme. We have recruited some tall skinny outside linebacker/ defensive end types in Mingo last year and Maclin this year. On top of that, we have a few guys that seem to fit 3-4 defensive end position better than the 4-3.

Minter and Shepherd could be the inside backers next year with Ryan Baker and Mingo(maybe) as another outside backer. It would give Chavis the speed he likes to combat against the spread offenses.

this COULD be it....but I dont think so...who ever plays DT will have some major competition though next year when "the Freak" steps on the field...Johnson will start as a freshman....book it...

I actually have been saying that the 3-4 would be nice for us. Not sure who our NT would be. But last year was so predictable with our blitzes and our weak pass rush, I'd be for it.

But with Alem, Charles, and Al gone, i'm still good with a 4-3. I think we have a lot of DL talent for next year.

Chavis isn't going to a 3-4.

4-3 all his life and no indication he would be changing. Plus, a key indicator of a defense philosophy switch would be a couple of new defensive coaches who are well versed in 3-4 concepts, ESPECIALLY concerning linebackers. LBs play different roles in a 3-4 vs. a 4-3.

Who would be our Nose Tackle in the 3-4?

The defensive line just got a little deeper now, especially at DE.

Brockers is a more natural fit inside, IMHO. Pep has the flexibility to play inside or out, as I believe both Ferguson and Copeland have. Ideally, I'd keep Copeland outside, because to me he looks more natural and comfortable coming off of the end. The need for DTs may be too great, and he may end up fitting better at DT for us, once he finishes growing.

Really only Davenport (now), and Brockers (in a year, MAYBE), even remotely fit that mold.

We would have plenty of guys who could play end in a 3-4, and OLB as well.

The well runs dry at NT and ILB, however.
