Sure, LSU is the top baseball program in the country; it would be nice if the country cared.

I'm pretty sure basketball is much bigger than baseball at Florida and that they're quite proud of their recent national championships. I view Florida as one of the country's good basketball schools.

So you would rather give up LSU being THE Team in college baseball for being recognized...and im using your word....as being one of college basketball's "good" teams? Really? jeez. LSU will NEVER EVER EVER EVER EVER EVER EVER EVER be recognized as being a "GREAT" basketball program. NEVER. OOOOOOh..we made it to some final fours....big freaking deal. So we made it to some semifinals...wooohooo.

You are one of the absolute MINORITY who thinks of Florida when people ask to name some great basketball programs. Ok ...you said you thought they were "good"...so ill forget that.

So Ill say unless I can trade all 6 baseball championships for at least 3 baskeball championships...and probably those have to be in a 4 or 5 year span...Ill decline.

and also...to win a title in basketball is the hardest thing to do. Baseball is about 20x easier. mainly because of the lack of schools that take baseball seriously.

you are going to have to explain this rather stupid statement..

There are a ton of D-1 Programs...and most schools (and yes even some SEC schools) put a ton into trying to in basketball because it more cost affordable than say..try competeting ni football...
so you have alot more competition to go against (football basically same schools every year and baseball outside of a few schools could care less) and then if you slip up once in the playoffs..no matter your season or your record...you are done. even in baseball you can have a loss during the playoffs. basketball does not allow that...thats why you can get some strange final 4's sometimes...and that is why in basketball final 4's are such a big deal..they are so hard to get to

This.

What other university in the country has an athletic department and a fan base that places more value on their baseball program than their basketball program?

The same people that crow "ATLLEAST WE"RE THE BEST IN SOMETHING NO MATTER THE SIZE!" or whatever idiotic statement they make..are the same ones who will laugh at say University of north dakota for claiming to be the best in college hockey.

also, comparing NCAA baseball to hockey is a joke..

the current baseball america top 25 has 20 teams from BCS conferences, with the remaining teams being Rice, TCU, ECU, Coastal Carolina and UC-Irvine.. the collegiate baseball poll also has 20 BCS teams in the top 25, and every major conference is represented..

thats not exactly a niche sport..

If you honestly think college baseball isn't a niche sport than god bless ya. That's just the cutest thing i've seen in awhile.

what evidence do you have that it is a niche sport? and i know that this argument has been had pretty frequently on here lately, so if you dont want to get into, its cool... ill just agree to be cute and right, and you can be wrong..

go to say...Michigan...I bet the avg sports fan can remember who won the last 3 ncaa football and basketball titles.
I have a hard time beliving they would know who won last 3 CWS.
Go to New York and ask same question...prob. same thing.
Hell to be honest...if LSU isn't in CWS...I wouldn't know if half of the fanbase knows who was the winner in the CWS

Dude it's awesome LSU follows baseball like it does....but college baseball is niche. It MAY be bigger niche than other niches....but still..a niche.

....I agree.

College baseball is big at LSU. I do believe it is an incredible accomlishment what LSU has done in this sport.

What makes it even more incredible is the scholarship limits and the talent drain inflicted by MLB.

However, let's not fool ourselves. College baseball has no national television contract except for tournament and CWS.

The #10 baseball attendence average is 4,000 fans per game. the #25 baseball attendence average is 2,000 fans per game.

Very few I'm sure. I said this before, and I'll say it again 10 CWS titles might equal 1 Basketball title from a national publicity standpoint. It's great that we have such a good baseball program but like many here have said it is of little national relevance compared to football and to a slightly lesser extent basketball. I would trade five or our 6 CWS titles easily for one in basketball. I'm also a much bigger fan of basketball than baseball, so I may not be a good judge.

LSU is football and then baseball school. No one thinks of basketball when you hear the name LSU. LSU will never be a huge basketball school. Competitive, yes. People dont eat crawfish up north and some thionk its gross but it is not going to stop me from eating them. We are proud of baseball and we damn well should be. Just because Syracuse fans dont know who won the last CWS doesnt make it any less of an accomplishment.
