How Hard Coaching Is

In baseball, especially a competitive super regional game, every single action and decision is critical to the end result. You can judge pitching to Mendoza. But that sticks out the most because it ended the game. But what about the Garza passed ball? The Gio and Watson baserunning mishaps? The strikeouts in ABs where you can not afford to K? Every single one of these things going one way or the other can change the outcome of a close game.

That’s why baseball is such a hard game to consistently be successful especially at the D1 level. For the people that think we should be winning championships at the rate we were in the 90s, come back down to earth. D1 baseball is way more competitive from top to bottom than it was in Skip’s days.

CPM made the “right” move by sitting Hughes and DH’ing Gio. Then Gio makes a mistake that affects the outcome of the game. Would keeping the lineup the same have resulted in a win? A coach cannot be inside the head of a player when he is making split decisions on the field. Anyone that has coached or has been a parent knows telling someone to do something and then doing it are not always the same thing.

So many things go into a game that many casual fans may not see. As hard as it is to win a close game it’s that easy to lose it as well.

Yes aspects of the team and staff need changing. But appreciate the players for putting their lives into a game for our enjoyment. Appreciate the coaches for their commitment. And appreciate LSU finishing as one of the top 16 teams in the country. If you think we should finish #1 every year, then you need to have a reality check.

Hahahah

You’re right. It does stick out more because it ended the game.

Sometimes your decisions are based on the situation. If not then you would have no need for a coach on the bench.

He gets paid an absurd amount of money for RESULTS. He failed to achieve RESULTS.

This is the kind of attitude that can bring you to really bad times if your not careful. The expectation for LSU baseball should be to get to Omaha. Having that expectation is what makes programs so successful. That expectation should never change. We shouldn’t just settle for just being a top 16 team because before you know it you will fall below that and then be okay with just making the tournament.

Not settling...just realizing how hard it is to be a top 8 team in Omaha every single year...they lost in the CWS finals and that still “wasn’t enough”

how many walks did we give up ?
how many base running errors did we make ?

those are things you do in the first two games, not the last two. coaching isn't easy, I agree but CPM and his staff are NOT doing a good job of coaching our kids.

I will agree with you that more “coaching” needs to be done. But you can’t blame the coach if a player misses second base or just completely falls asleep at third. Walking people can be a combination of things. But it’s up to the player to perform. Sometimes you have the “right” guy on the mound and he struggles.

you're making excuses bro. 11 walks in a game isn't a kid issue, it's a pitching coach issue.
the base running errors ... total mental errors. kids heads are not where they should be.

who was asleep on 3rd ? I contend it was Cain, not Gio.

no shite. Hughes wouldn’t have been on base to make the mistake and he’s no bright spot for base running either.

Hughes hadn’t got a hit in his last 28 plate appearances. He had 11 rbis for the season and I don’t believe he’s had one in over a month

I hope you realize at the end of the day it’s the pitcher that is throwing the ball...the coach can’t trot out to the plate and place the ball over plate for him. Even if you fix a flaw in someone’s mechanics it does not guarantee a strike every pitch

Oh ... I hadn't considered that the coach doesn't physically throw the ball. thanks for pointing that out.
