Casually left out bright, Dupree, Roland, lloreda? The man could recruit. I guess by your standards you must be able to only recruit nationally because recruiting your backyard doesn't prove anything.
FYI, I was using John Brady's son's (or whoever that poster is) list to go off, as his "golden beacon" of the Brady years.
Which, without Collis Temple II, would have been a one and done year of Anthony Randolph, and who? Terry Martin? Regis Koundjia? Ross Neltner?
Were there some good players that came through the program in the Brady years? Sure.
But there was also a D-1 team worth of talent that Brady ran off. Instead of building powerhouses, he was playing Bobby Knight, only without the actual coaching ability.

College basketball has been ruined by the NBA. It started going down when Kevin Garnett and Kobe skipped college. The entire talent pool is watered down and there are too many college basketball programs.
Also, the athlete of today is typically a frontrunner. He likes to play on a winning team so all of the talent seems to assemble at the top programs.
True. Overall, college basketball right now is just a horrible, horrible product. And the college basketball regular season may just be the worst, most meaningless thing in all of sports.

Some of the Rant are too young to have this perspective....but the program has staggered ever since. It was the beginning of the end for Dale Brown. RL was special, he was leading the nation in assists on one leg...then he was REINJURED.
Brown did some great things, some great times. But he couldn't coach his team out of a bathroom compared to Brady.
I cried when Brady got the job...because I felt that LSU had hired someone with enormous passion for the program. And I was correct. But the problem with Brady was that he got his dream job too early in life...he never seemed comfortable with the job. And due to his discomfort he seemed to spend more time apologizing and rationalizing than coaching.
I am convinced TJ will get us there. And I am insulted by the lack of enthusiasm displayed by the LSU nation. But that is what happens when you go through some lean times. I predict TJ will bring a spark to this program....right now it seems the only way is up. Support the program and TJ will turn it around.
BTW. Ralston Turner is the best jump shooter at LSU since Ronnie Henderson... the talent is coming back!

I didn't think we could get much worse after last year, but this year is starting to look really really really ugly. I'm just glad that the SEC West is really bad this year.

That was the only successful period of the program.
Wrong. 80-81 Tigers should have won the NC and if not for Rudy Macklin's stitched up finger probably would have.

I think I counted 5 or 6 that graduated. The rest either couldn't get along w/ JB or they went pro. TJ will have a solid program once he gets a few more guys in. He's got #1 in the state, and #1 in the region coming in next year. He will have big time players that stay, and we'll consistently be in the tourney

This is easy:
1. Brady left TJ with a talented, but upperclassmen laden team and a very poor signing class to work with. This resulted in a successful first year, but a major roster overhaul in subsequent years.
2. The high school basketball talent in Louisiana has been in the worst 3-year stretch I have seen in 25-plus years. This coincides with Trent Johnson's first 3 years at LSU. This should not be understated. Brady lived and died with local talent. He
had 4 SEC freshmen of the year, all from Louisiana.
3. Trent Johnson, no doubt with the knowledge and approval of Joe Alleva ( who hired him), has insisted on building a stable, long term program. He has avoided JUCO players and other short-term solutions. Love or hate Brady, but his tenure was a rollercoaster. It's obvious TJ and Alleva want stability.
Agree or disagree, but this is the way it is. Regardless of anything you may think, TJ has a 5 year window to build this thing back up and is fully supported by his bosses. That said, I expect LSU to be an NCAA team next year and compete for the conference title in 2013.

That's insane. We made the NCAA tournament ever year from 1984 through 1993,and made the NCAA or NIT from 1979 through '93.
4 Final Fours, 10 SEC titles and 3 players on the NBA's 50th Anniversary All-Time team don't come from teams that "suck in general".
You are correct sir!

Agree Bubba. But I do think TJ is set up for a run at the conference next season. No seniors and two very good players coming in to join this bunch. I can't believe the intolerance of a coach who's already won an SEC title, produced a top 20 recruiting class, landed a 5* committment and brought much-needed discipline to a team, all because of 4, single-digit losses. And those 4 losses are likely all to teams that will play in post-season. This team will be fine and next year will start a post-season run that will bring back memories of Daddy Dale's years at the helm.

Ford "may" have been a better selection

need to challenge the UConn women to a game.

What do you see from this team that makes you think they can compete with Florida or Kentucky?

People said that last year about Malcom White and Stringer. And White hasn't been good at all IMO.
I'm all for giving TJ a five year window and this team may even be decent in four years. I just don't see where the optomisim is coming from. This team is just plain bad right now.

NOT - we might lose that one. Remember Bobby and Billie Jean ???

well when we finish around .500 I think some of you will be surprised. There are always growing pains with a young team but when you play a gauntlet of Arkansas, State, Auburn and Alabama anything is possible. Hell, we could pull 5 or 6 wins from them alone.

Nicholls, Coastal, almost McNeese, Wichita ... not like we are playing Duke or Michigan State right now

so there were no definitive better choices to be our coach and still aren't, yet people think LSU needs a new coach, amazing

I just want to challenge some of you to go out to the PMAC and see a game. Watch Turner and Stringer. If they aren't playing hard or you aren't impressed with these two young guys and think we have no future with them then fine. But I think most of you will be surprised. But give them a fricking chance before writing them off as failures just because they weren't recruited by Kansas and Duke.

Nicholls and CC were two games that the youngsters played down to the competition and paid with close losses. WSU is a very good team and will likely be in the dance. The close losses to Memphis and WSU showed this young team could compete with tournament ready teams. 4 single-digit losses with a team this young should not have people sounding the alarm IMO. Freshmen will be inconsistant at times but they are fun to watch on most nights and will only get better.

Sure everyone wants team to do well. Once again, let's see how it plays out after this year and into next year. TJ goes into Year 5 with only one decent year (and being on Brady's talent), we need to start thinking about looking elsewhere.
It is unfortunate for those who did not ever get to see or recall that we actually did have a good basketball program that consistently made the NCAA for over a decade.
