Changing up the game plan and not being hard headed goes a long way

Im sorry but our gameplan for the Bama game was incredible. Until the fake punt Bama did nothing on offense and we drove it up and down the field when we werent shooting ourselves in the foot.

Gameplanning was not an issue in that game IMO. Lack of halftime adjustments was an issue though.

The fumble didn't help. That score would have helped to beat them down early.

I also think that the last two games against Bama hurt us a lot mentally.

Four times before the middle of the third quarter, we had to overcome the "here we go again" syndrome: fumble at endzone, fumble by Mett, PI by Robinson and fake punt. After the way this team has been snakebit by Bama the last two years, it was too much to overcome.

Auburn, by having a new coach, could jettison the bad emotions from the last two years (that's not an endorsement of the "fire Miles" hype, just a comment on human nature). Additionally, the derp plays were by Bama, not them. Put that in your home stadium and the recipe of a upset is in place.

I still think that Bama wins 8 of 10 games they play, but Auburn earned the chance to play for championships by winning that game.

Saban mistakes + Auburn improvement = Gump loss!

I for one am glad we're not playing Aubie again....they're not the same team we faced earlier.

Shouldn't the question be how did we get it done against Auburn, but Bama didn't?

1. We don't have a mobile QB. 2. They were up for the game and played their best game of the year. 3. Home field advantage 4. Did not execute in the trenches both Offense and defense.

If you recall at the time against Auburn, LSU was pass first offense which opened up Jeremy Hill to have a monster day rushing. LSU still had to hold off Auburn, they played very well. They ran right at us all game. Good thing Malzahn didn't attempt many deep passes.

At the time we played Bama, LSU reverted back to a run first offense which played right into Bama's hands. The defense played fairly well the first half, but inexplicably stopped playing Robinson. After Robinson was benched, Bama scored pretty much every drive.

The lack of Sabans defense not being able to sub in/out do to the no huddle offense was one of the biggest thing. Also Auburn pounded it down their throats on the ground.

Bama was off. Coaching, execution, penalties, were all worse than usual.
Home field helped.
They didn't make many "momentum swinging" mistakes.
They stuck with their game plan and it kept them in the game.
A little bit of luck on top of all of that got them the W..
ON a side note. Did anyone else get the feeling, when Auburn was driving the ball with under 2 minutes left - all running plays - and they were confident and collected and knew exactly when they were going to call timeouts and what not, that we would never ever have that feeling under Miles? I'm not flaming on Miles. I'm just saying.

Not me, I was saying "what are you doing, Les?" as they continued to run up the middle during the two minute drill. I thought they would run out of time, but of course, they were just setting up their version of the Tebow Jump Pass (which worked perfectly).

I have heard on local Montgomery radio that one of the things communicated through their signs is the substitution pattern. So, Malzahn essentially knows what the next few plays will be and that each player knows if they are going to come out after a play before a play is run, both on offense and defense. This eliminates a lot of indecision in their substitution pattern. This was huge as the Bama OL wore out before the Auburn DL, leading to the huge stops on 3d & 4th downs late.

Malzahn is smarter than a lot of coaches, and will be a problem for us (and everyone else, including Bama) for as long as he is at Auburn.

Auburn rotates 10 players on the defensive front, which keeps them fresh for the second half. LSU can start that next year if they want to.

Saban out smarted himself by not kicking the field goal and going on 4th down.
