Because of his boneheaded late pursuit of Tua, he almost lost Brennan. There was 0% chance of landing Tua.

The Whole Kiffin to LSU talk while tailgating for the Bama game in 2016 was the hot topic. Some thought Tua would come with. I never truly believed any of it.

O and Kiffin had a deal. If Kiffin couldn't find a head coaching job, he was coming to LSU. Kiffin got the FAU deal. So O had to find an OC.
The only reason why O said he would get the best OC in the country when he was hired is that he thought he would end up with Kiffin. Thus, when Kiffin found a head job, coach O then had to hire another OC.
Had O not expected to hire Kiffin, he would have promoted Ensminger to OC instead of hiring Canada.
