How is the scheme that produced one the best offenses in the history of college football flawed? Please give us specifics.

JD was a generational talent that hid deficits. Running a read option is futile if a QB won’t run. That’s ALL the flaw you need.

Orgeron figured out against Florida a few years back that pulling guards & tackles is hard to defend.
LOL.
LSU had been running Power way, way, before Orgeron's arrival.

I think it’s our running scheme and not as much our inability to run block. We need to have more creative running plays with misdirection blocking schemes.

It’s also having the right back to fit the scheme. Williams was fine next to Daniels, but isn’t nearly as effective paired with a pocket passer.

Durham is the one back we have who is a good fit, because he has good vision and the burst and speed to hit the crease quickly when it does open up. There’s no mystery why we suddenly started running the ball more effectively with him and why we struggled this last week with him obviously still slowed by his injury.

If Durham can get back to 100%, we can at least have a good rushing threat with the current scheme and blocking style. In the meantime, they need to consider running Thomas a few times per game (which they have done once per game in previous games), and give Johnson a couple of scripted carries. I would love to see Thomas or Anderson get a jet or two per game, as well. Enough to make the defense think about what we’re doing.

Go back and watch. There’s maybe 1 actual read-option play for every 9 meshes you see. The rest are RPOs, which are perfect for a guy like Nuss. Just watch for the pass routes and it’s easy to see which it is.

Nuss has thrown two red zone TDs, including the one to Green Saturday, off RPOs so far this season. Does he need to pull and throw them more often if they are close to being open- definitely. They aren’t as much of a threat to the defense as they should be because Nuss doesn’t pull often enough, especially outside of the red zone.

But this still invalidates a big part of your point about scheme. We aren’t running very many read-options at all. Now I do agree that running any is a waste at this point, even if it’s one or two per game. They should be eliminated unless the staff decides to lean into some QB run to shake things up.

I feel like we need to do a little more with two TE to run the ball. Give the defense more gaps to fill. Also I think we could utilize Z. Thomas waaaaay more in the run game. The orbit motion with GT counter opposite the backs direction is nasty. The little WR wing reverse is getting run all over the place on Saturday's and Sunday's.

I'm not complaining just making some observations. It's an area we could improve in for sure.

RPO’s are also tougher if your IOL are getting pushed back regularly

We need to see more creative run options outside the tackles AND with motion
