Lets eliminate the chop block, face mask, clipping, and blocking below the waist rules. It's stupid to protect the health of football players.

I think the calls are ok, but the refs often call it when only the jersey is grabbed, ie Saturday night.

I did not think that he had the pads,(maybe he did) but the jersey. So if you grab the jersey at the neck opening that is considered a horse collar tackle?
We won so I aint bitchin but, that crew is the worst! When I see bugeyes as the ref I say oh no! I cant rememebr when so many flagrant holding calls were not called. I did like the nice forearm the ref through though...Nice job!

the rule sucks because that's the only way he could have tackled him? I doubt that was his only choice. Besides, even if he tried a legal tackle and failed, I doubt he would have picked up 15 yards, much less a first down. We had them backed up and it would have been third and very long.

problem was on that blown call, he didnt grab the collar of the jersey. His hands were several inches below the collar.

Glad you posted this! Did this "horse collar" thing creep in from the NFL rules? Continuos changes made to the sport will morph the game into something that is far from what we now know to be smash-mouth football.

Of course we want to protect our football players, but lets make sure that that they are playing FOOTBALL.

I can see it now...ESPN in the year 2050... some queer eye for the straight guy dude nancing around and lisping, "Are you ready for some football?"

Someone please explain how this type of tackle is more prone to cause injury. Not sayin' it doesn't, but I can't see it.

Could not fina a good example on You Tube. I've seen Williams land on the players ankles and do some damage. Just a cheap way to tackle IMO.

If preventing injury is the priority then lets ban blitzing, all blocks below the waist, using the helmet to tackle....or just outlaw tackling altogether and go to touch football....but that can be dangerous too. Lets just outlaw the sport and watch videos of old games.

The only way to tackle from behind now is by the hips (which is easy to get out of with a lateral move like Early Doucet used in the NCG to score) and the knees. So the knees are going to be the obvious target. Statistics should start to pile up on knee injuries and we will see if it was better before or after. I haven't seen grabbing the jersey enforced as a horse collar.

Players are going to be injured. Thats why we train players who wait the bench. Losing a star player to an injury might alter a team's season. But every other team has the same risk.

cant just make that statement and then expect it to have credibility. Gotta explain why. Like thi

No it wasnt a horse collar

why? Both hands were full of jersey only BENEATH the collar. He grabbed the top of the numbers, hands well beneath the jersey's collar.

If your right, I gotta have some rule clarification

I agree, its a stupid penalty.

Why don't we just make TACKLING illegal and use flags instead? While we're at it, since running is dangerous, we'll require all the players walk according to walk racing rules.

Well heck, we need to protect their health, lets make playing football a penalty.

Better yet - let's continue to add more and more complicated rules to the game until the game is so riddled with absurd regulations that the team with the least penalties always wins.

THANK YOU! Why not just play flag football if every hit is a penalty?

Horse collar, hit too high, hit too low, helmet to helmet, leading with the helmet, late hit, etc, etc.

Granted, some of those are legit, but just to make my point as to how many penalties there are from tackling alone.
