I think they’ll be fine too, but the premise of this post is that pitching off would have been a bad idea. That’s only true if the rest of the staff would have given up more than 6 runs. Anyone who really believes that (which I don’t), should be really worried about Game 3 and beyond.

That question cuts both directions. How many teams threw their ace and how many pitched off? Those making the claim that pitching off was the worse strategy need to show that more than 4 of the 16 hosts threw their Friday night starter. At the moment, all we know is that neither strategy was foolproof, not which had the better success rate.

I’m fine with it. The rest of the staff has been coming along just like in the past. We needed to set the tone for the rest of the weekend and that was accomplished.

It all depends on the outcome. You win it's genius. You lose and you're an idiot and should be fired.
