Everyone has things to work on and can be better, but as Bednarik award winner, by definition, he was the best defensive player in the nation last year. Starts all over with the new season, but as of now he can legitimately say he is the best.

Who made more impact plays on defense than Mathieu last year? Not talking punt or kick returns just defense. Remember the strip vs Oregon. The tipped pick vs WVU. The forced fumble vs UGA. Many, many more. You can argue that he's not the best but at the same time his stats and a little trophy called the Bednarik say he is the best. Every player they mentioned has weaknesses. Show theirs and put up the impact plays and then let me know who's better. It certainly isn't Montgomery. Not based on what has happened so far. TM has had arguably the best 1st 2 seasons of any defensive player ever.

It's a program that dedicates half an hour to college football. It's called ESPN has nothing on its plate two months before the season starts. Any story is a story.

My question is TM7 wrong by saying he is the best defensive player in the country? I say no. I mean he did win the National Defensive Player of the Year award and was the only defensive player in New York for the Heisman Presentation. This should be no story. Actually the media should be promoting that he is the best defensive player on the best defense. I just can't wait till there is something to actually talk about in the sports world. 46 Days!

This is exactly right. But what's in it for espn to say this? I am one of those that have quit watching espn. I understand it's just an entertainment network, but I would like some valid info with my sports news.
