I have only watched two games this season. SC and Bama.
In SC game, LSU didn't sag inside and SC had like about 20 dunks in the game, and LSU was very very fortunate to win a game they were totally outplayed for 35 minutes.
So, it seems that WW decided, as the Bama coach stated in the presser after the game, to sag inside and try to prevent easy dunks and layups.
Because LSU does not have a rim protector, they have almost all collapse inside to prevent penetration. That leaves the easy kickout for uncontested 3 pt shots. Bama proved they can shoot that shot.
So LSU has no defense to stop both because we don't have a rim protector. Bama does and swatted away most of our penetration moves, and LSU proved it is a very poor shooting 3 pt team. Days on the bench, for who knows why most of the game, didn't help, as he has proven to be one of our better 3 pt shooters. Our star freshman, just shot very poorly against bama, and that hurt us also. We just don't have the horses to play against the better talented teams that can defend inside and shoot outside. That will prove to be the case most of the rest of the season, I suspect. We will shoot well some games, and we will not some games, and that is how our season will be determined, because we just don't have the necessary size and talent inside to protect the rim on defense. just my observation.

My problem is, when they penetrate to the weak side, LSU commits too early with help. Also, the on ball defender needs to redirect his man ( overplay ) him to penetrate to the strong side of your defense where you can have rotations instead of giving up 3’s left and right from the weak side because there is no one to rotate and it’s too late to close once you commit to help on penetration.

By God ! A basketball player speaks up. You're gonna catch hell now.

It was a bad recipe.. Bama who already hits a ton of threes was on fire. And of course that’s the night our entire team couldn’t get in rhythm offensively so you add that to terrible defensive effort and guys abandoning plays on offense for ridiculous shots, and that’s what happens.
I mean Bama’s basketball team was like a well oiled machine Tuesday night. Ours took a hundred steps backward in just about every aspect... it’s consistency that I am yet to see out of a WW coached LSU basketball team. If they could consistently play to their potential, we’d be dynamite.

They transitioned offensively to set up or just shoot the three. We transitioned defensively to stop plays and drives. It was that simple.

E.g., on many transitions, they would sometimes only have one guy who would stop and shoot a three. We would have three guys already down in the paint or under the basket. It wasn't for lack of hustle, they just weren't set up to defend it.
