I don't agree with the premise of this thread, but I would point out that as to LSU specifically, the NCAA timed LSU announcements (or leaks) such that our coach was unable to coach post-season tournament games in 2 out of the last 3 (technically 4 but I say 3 because the postseason was cancelled in the COVID year) years. I could see players having some trepidation with the LSU program while the NCAA is still out there. That said, this concern isn't win 2 games in conference play large. It just may effect a player or two.

Here's a secret you might not want to hear. The top HS players don't really give a shite about the NCAA Tournament. They are looking beyond college basketball from before the moment they step on campus. Sure, they would like to win in college. But first and foremost they want to go somewhere than can develop them for the NBA ASAP. They don't really care if a school is being "investigated".
That's why a guy like Cam Thomas, a projected first round pick, came to LSU despite the looming cloud of uncertainty that had existed since 2019. It's why highly ranked recruits like Julian Phillips (#15) and Yohan Trahore (#24) were coming to LSU until the moment the coach that recruited them was fired. If Wade had not been fired they would have been at LSU this season...regardless of the "looming sanctions".
I think what is lost on most is that those critical of McMahon now were very complementary of his roster building before the season. Go back and look in threads from May or so after the roster was complete. There is NOTHING but praise and optimism in there for McMahon. Unfortunately, he did an awful job coaching that roster. And now we have some who absolutely refuse to acknowledge that, heaping all of the blame on the roster 10 months ago they thought was solid.

Will Wade was a master at paying them.
I wish LSU had kept him, mostly just to spit in the eye of Dick Vitale. But there is considerable evidence that Will Wade was not, in fact, a master of paying players.
