Almost all of our best players from the last 3 SEC championship teams were from Louisiana.
Until recently, none of the HS players from La were even close to being as good as Bass, Davis, Augustin, Mitchell, and Monroe, especially in the 2009 and 2011 recruiting classes.
The bigger issue here is recruiting OOS. That is where Trent has struggled more. He has gotten what he wanted in La. for the most part. Gathers was the 1st. La player he wanted, but couldn't get.

I don't see Aleva or the board spending 3 mil to let TJ go- its basketball and it is not that high of a priority
Now I disagree with the above- it is a statement of reality.
Face it- if Brady had not offended the wrong people at the wrong time he would probably still be here- he was not fired for his win loss record

Arkansas, Alabama, Auburn, Florida, Vanderbilt and Tennesse all spent over $6 mil for basketball. LSU spent $4.1. LSU's admin has decided (at least to this point) that basketball isn't worth the extra money and risk.
To me, spend the $6 mil and get there. They will get 10k plus in the PMAC for all SEC games if the product is good.

There's been a dip in the last few years, but there's still some great guys that we missed out on.
Javan Felix
Langston Galloway
Ricardo Gathers
Brian Williams
All great players. Players that are or will be good college players. Some of them could be NBA players.

I respectfully disagree about the OOS recruiting. When we have won, we have been led by great players from our state. We need to get the players from Louisiana. Maybe Trent was hurt from the dip in talent we've had in the past few years. However, it's his fault for not "wanting" Galloway. I was at one of Galloway's games once. So was Trent Johnson. Galloway had 4 points in the first half. Trent left at halftime.
Galloway scored 30 in the 2nd half.
That story isn't that relevant in the grand scheme of things, but maybe Trent just can't see what is right in front of him. Admittedly, the talent hasn't been as great as it has been in the past for the last few years, but there's still been enough.

I think LSU thinks promoting the basketball program means to put up a construction sign on Nicholson the Friday before the Kentucky game saying there's a game tomorrow. That's all I saw besides one billboard in October.

they actually need to contact the Hornets, who sold 10k season tickets somehow when everyone knew CP3 and West were leaving.
see what they did.
but i agree, LSU basketball marketing is horrible
see what they did.

It helps when the coach does some marketing himself. I'm the last guy who will ever defend Brady, but even his dumb arse did a decent job of promoting the program.

The Hornets connected with the city. The "I'm In" campaign was honestly marketing brilliance to the tee. I had a guy from the Hornets come in to one of my classes and talk about it.

See, there is an inconsistency here.
You have 5 guys in 2 recruiting classes. 2010 and 2012, but nothing in 2011. You can't just settle for La. players when you have a gap like that. It may have been okay to do so from 2004 up to 2008, but not so after that.
This reminds me of that 2006 recruiting class when we did not sign anybody that year. We could have had at least had a PG that year. Despite all of the talent we still had, we still didn't do shite with it after the 2005-2006 season, mostly because we were still operating without a true PG.

Obviously you can't just settle only for in-state players. I understand that. I'm saying we need to keep the good ones here.
ETA: It's been a problem for 10 years. It's not like this just started when Trent got here.

yeah, thats part of it. LSU could pick up on it, even if it is on a smaller scale
and whoever said the coach needs to connect is right. That is why Pearl was so popular at Tenn.

I'm hoping this class we end with:
Morgan
Hammink
Coleman
and a big man (that 5 star would be so clutch)
but I just don't know. I'm not sure what we can accomplish with TJ at the helm. He could take Kentucky and lose 4 games I'm sure.

Yep. We need a guy with passion and positive energy.

I had hih hopes that Trent would be able to recruit LA and get player from several regions. He has not done a good job of recruiting anywhere. JO'BJr is a great one but one isn't enough. Problem what really good & respected coach will take the job.

Might have to sacrifice a class if we fire the head coach. It's certainly a tricky situation.
