its undeniable that the program has regressed since 2007. a quarterback here or an offensive coordinator there or no mallveto may have made a difference but there are other reasons. cant really sugarcoat it.

I'd say LSU is 6 years away from being a legitimate contender for SEC West, overall and national championships.
So last year when LSU was 7-1 in November and leading #2 Alabama on the road for 3+ quarters even though every call was going against us (Through 3 quarters LSU had 8 penalties, Alabama 1) you don't think we were contending for an SEC West championship? You don't think the season plays out differently if we beat Bama and control our own destiny for the SEC West title? You don't think a team who sets goals of winning championships has a let down when that goal is no longer on the table?

All the doom and gloom posters need to go back and re-watch the LSU/Bama game from last year and see just how close we are to the team that won the SEC/BCS. We were winning that game for over 3 quarters dispite every call/spot/penalty going in Alabama's favor.

LSU has a great QB, even though folks love to hate him. Compare his numbers to Bama's QB last year

Compare JJ's 2nd place SEC West ring with McElroy's National Championship ring. Nobody hates him, but all the realists who have been watching LSU football for more than just a few short years know exactly what we have there.....

Sure it plays out differently. But in the real world, they lost, and continued losing.

They did, and in the meantime the team lost more confidence in their coach and qb. Once LSU gets blown out by UNC, the wheels come off the bus, and it will get ugly

Sinking, imv.

I've never been less excited about an upcoming season.

Most SEC games are close. Tennessee should have beat Bama last year. They're sinking, too.

Sure they were contending, you're right. But it's the job of the HC not to lead the season go in the crapper because you didn't meet one of your goals. The next goal is to win all of your remaining games and play well. He lost his focus and so did the team after the Bama game.

Sadly I somewhat agree. I still hold out hope that CLM can get it done even though the evidence has not been in his favor the last two years.

Lsu is a running game away from contention. Defense will be fine. Passing game will be fine when you don't have to depend on it as much as last year.

Could seriously be this year.

Everybody has to have a little luck.

Or maybe the running game sucked last year because of the inability to throw the ball downfield

I have seen nothing to indicate the continued downward spiral has been arrested.

As long as we have an OC who telegraphs to the opponents D and coaching staff every play we make this trend will continue.

Compare McElroy's Heisman running back, stud oline and better back up running back with LSU playing their (4th? string) running back and terrible o line by the time they were in their bowl game.

terrible o line

this is what gets me. LSU o-line last year was terrible why? Because miles played favorites like Hitt, T-bob, and Black while more productive linemen rotted on the bench?

So this year, we assume its better because the senior favorites are gone?

This is still the same coach who f'd it up in the first place

I will give Jefferson credit here. He put up very similiar stats as Mcelroy without having the luxury of a great running game, a great OL, a smothering D, and a competent offensive coordinator.
