It did look like he mistimed the jump and consequently made the play much more difficult. It’s one of those plays that would have been a good play if he made it but you kind of expect them to make if you are a fan of the team. Reminds me of a receiver making a jump to make a “tough play” but it goes in and out of his hands. Everyone says in football it hits your hands you expect to make the catch at that level. Sort of similar scenario here. I’d be a little annoyed at the play if Dickinson did that to give them the game winning run. But it definitely was the least egregious of the 4.

Most agree that he mistimed his jump. Even his coach said the same thing. Time the jump correctly and easy catch. His arm wasn't even fully extended.
