re: Hitting coach
Sanchez was promoted to hitting coach from GA after last year. We just have a few key guys in a slump (Landry, Dean). You also have to give credit to UK pitching from this weekend. I think UK wins the east this year...

I think we need to stick with our "starters" and let them ride it out. My problem with your post is yes Landry is struggling, but other than Ochinko who isn't really? I mean our "All-American" Dean is about as low as he can get...why not call for his starting spot in the lineup?

That said who knows why we are struggling at the plate....If I had an opinion on a opinion board, we need to play WAYYYY better competition leading up to SEC's...it doesnt help us any bit playing crap teams till the week before SEC's. I would love to have the schedule of A&M, Stanford, Rice or Cal State

re: Hitting coach
Landry and Dean are both having the same problem, neither one of them wants to hit the ball to the opposite field. They are both dead pull hitters who struggle with balls on the outer half of the plate.

re: Hitting coach
Fundamentally our guys are pitiful at the plate in general--mainly the lefties.

Every good pitching coach and pitcher with some decent stuff and good location can strike out our player consistently because of their fundamental problems at the plate.

It is unbelievable to me that starting college players for a top 10 school in the country are never taught the fundamentals at the plate--makes no sense.

Some are better than others, but Leon for example has major problems in his swing.

re: Hitting coach
I went to the friday night game. Sat right behind the left side of the plate so i had a good view. Dean wasn't within a foot and a half of the third strike on his 1st 2 ABs. His head was looking at pluckers, hips were facing walk-ons and the pitch was outside!! I think he's pressing too hard. He already dropped landry in the lineup, might not hurt to drop dean too. I wouldn't sit either though, i think they'll come around

that kid on friday was ridiculous!! We struggled all year vs LHP last year. That being said, you gotta cut them a lil bit of slack. UKs staff is among the tops in the league

It is not just the staff they faced this weekend. I realize that the UK staff is good, but at the same time, there is no reason to lose fundamentals when facing the best. If anything, you should revert back to your fundamentals when playing the best competition.

The batters problems have been evident since last year, but no one bitches about it unless they go in "slumps". The point remains--there is only a select group of pitches/location combinations that many of the guys can hit. It is too hard to go into specifics over the internet, but most of their problems stem from their hands being in the incorrect position and most of all extending their arms too early in the swing--hence why most of the lefties look like they have a HUGE swing...they do not stay compact as long as you as supposed to. They can hit fast balls over the plate or anything on the outside of the plate (assuming they keep their head in and hips), but they run into MAJOR problems hitting anything on the inside.

Thats about the most description I really feel like going into, but there are major issues with the guys at the plate. Everyone just notices it more against better pitching or when they go in slumps.

re: Hitting coach
Dean is trying to pull outside pitches and he's topping weak grounders to the right side.

Glad we are on the same page. It is just shocking to me that we have a 'hitting coach' when the guys do not have some of the basics of hitting down.

Almost added that exact line prior to posting.

re: Hitting coach
I agree with everything you said. Sadly, that goes straight onto coaching. Not trying to bash Landry but like you said, he has some serious fundamental problems on the outside of the plate and his swing in general. His last at bat today was pure evidence of that.

2 weeks ago, you would have thought the LSU hitting coach was some kind of God.

What a Joke.

re: Hitting coach
no way landry leads off especially against lefties. I think he's going on about 80% K rate vs lefties
