So you think Gathers is the solution to everything? A kid with no position in college?

I think that along with Morgan and what we have coming back, he is a pretty big get.

I have a friend in the coaching profession whom I respect that thinks he is the best player from the state in the last few years and is definitely a playuh at the next level, whatever number one chooses to label him with in regard to position.

So in conclusion, my answer to your question is yes.

i think he is a damn good player. good enough to merit keeping an unsuccessful coach around? i don't know, but whatever helps get this program rolling.

i may be alone but i actually always felt like we needed greg monroe back when more than we need gathers now.

He's very similar to Jeff Adrien who was pretty freaking good at UCONN.

I like Morgan more than Rico. Only way Rico gets his own shot is a dunk. As far as basketball skils he is as raw as he was as a freshman. He hasn't grown since that year but physically matured. His play is a lot more physical now. . Can he come in and contribute on the defense end? Probably. But don't expect much offensively.

So your friend thinks he is the best player in LA since who? DJ? Baby? Taz?

ETA: Monroe?

fwiw Trent is in no position to turn down any 4* star or higher recruit right now. No position? Trent should let him play goalie if he wants

Well aware. I don't see him being the savior that every one is making him out to be.

Success is very relative to talent.

Getting Monroe would have been 10x bigger than getting Gathers. Monroe had a great shot, he was crafty, taller, a great passer, just a great player on both ends of the floor. Obviously, considering he is currently an NBA player. Gathers won't give you anything NEAR that Monroe could give on the offensive end.

I realize saying the last few years is a broad statement, but I definitely wasn't going back that far.

Tac was the third rated point guard in the country, #1 was chris paul, not sure who #2 was. Regis on the other hand was a five star all american who duke wanted bad. Not sure why he didn't work out. I can remember Butch telling me Regis was one of the most talented kids he had ever recruited. Just goes to show you a five star recruit doesn't always pan out. Regis and tac were a both college busts. I think we had the #3 recruiting class in the country that year. Bass was in that class.
The coach at Morehead state may gets some play also, I really like Kermit also.

I think Gathers is a solid, 4-year player. He is not a savior, but a huge PR move that will help with state recruits next year.

Rivals was spot on with most those guys in that recruiting class.

The one guy that I know they failed on was Aaron Gray.

MTSU should win the Sun Belt and will probably give a 4 seed all they can handle, they nearly knocked off Vanderbilt the other day.

I honestly didn't know the baggage of Kermit and didn't realize he was so old when I first mentioned him.

Sorry about the tac thing, I am not sure where I read this but i did somewhere. He was highly touted fpur star and rivals top 50, my point of this whole conversation is at one time we attracted top recruits from other areas of the country other than Louisiana. I am just tired of hearing the excuse of the problem with LSU bb is the lack of talent in the state. We had a bunch of talented kids come here from other states. So that excuse for TJ is just another, hell we got Jabari Smith to come here and we were on probation. When you pay a guy a mill five we should expect more.

It's truly frustrating not having a hoops team that can generate excitement on a national level.

Get used to it because Alleva is apparently connected at the waist with TJ, much like Miles to J-Swag and Haslett to Brooks. Will take an almost totally empty PMAC over multiple games at the end of the season for Alleva to possibly make a move. Yall think Trent is really going to pull in all those Louisiana recruits next year if Alleva keeps him employed for another season?
