I think it’s a judgment call with valid logical reasons either way, 1) scorched earth start or 2) plan to put him in later or 3) hold back in case of emergency.

When at any level of any sports has any coach ever asked the administration, parents, etc...their heartfelt thoughts
I clearly recall staying hours after getting home from away games only to have parents come back to pick us up after hrs of more running when getting beat. Never asked premision or opinions.

It’s really a simple decision. You can’t win if you don’t get there. You don’t win tonight? You don’t get there.
