Hell, he converted a WR into a 4th string QB and nearly beat his rival Texas. He can flat out coach.

Beating Texas is a big thing especially this year.

I'll agree with you on this point. All that fawning over a guy that has, how many(?), years of big program HC experience?

He might be the next big thing, but I'd like to see more skins on his wall. I remember all the salivating over Sumlin and a host of hot new names.

A JM who Sumilin was going to have riding the bench before an injury forced Sumilin to start Johnny Football and the rest is history.

A majority of our "experts" here had Sumilin as a sure fire bet to own LSU and Miles.

A&M is spending money like drunken sailors and have 1 double digit winning season since 2012 to show for it, but some continue to assume that hiring successful HC's is like shooting fish in a barrel no matter the times they are proven wrong.

Oklahoma couldn't do it.

Regarding Baylor vs. Texas- converting a wide receiver into a QB in one week against ANY Power 5 team is challenge. It was amazing that they made a game of it.

The issue y'all are forgetting.

George Bass will encourage CLM to jump ship before the life rafts drop. If he gets canned by LSU his leverage is gone. IMO

Offensive minded HC is the route to take for sure. DC's can be had, especially with the I-10 talent base.

I could see that happening, but A&M isn't considering hiring Les.

You think Arkansas really was thinking about hiring Miles?

And I really don't necessarily disagree with this at all. That's one reason I was really happy to see that it looks like he'll be back at Houston next year, to get said skins on the wall and possibly be available a year from now if things don't work out next season for Miles here. Now, he may not be if A&M snatches him up.

And I don't think there is any way in hell A&M tries to hire Miles, BUT... If they did, I would hope we would give Herman a very hard look. For one thing, our options would be pretty limited based on the timing. If he can be had then I would hope to see us go for it.

I think this is all one enormous hypothetical though because I don't see them coming after Miles.

Drunk rednecks. 99% chance it took place in Alabama. He probably disfigured his Bear Bryant tattoo he has down there. Or Nick Saban, whichever one it is.

Have you ever watched a Herman offense. He doesn't run a spread like Sumlin. His offenses are closer to a power run than a traditional spread, he just knows how to incorporate an effective passing attack unlike you know who. At Ohio St in 2014, that offense rushed 690 times for 3967 yds and passed 409 times for 3707 yds. Elliot rushed for over 1800 yds and Barrett almost hit 1000 yds. 2013 was even more lopsided for rushing stats.

At Houston this year, the team passed 386 times for 3216 yds 20 TDs and rushed 616 times for 3114 yds and 46 rushing TDs. Herman is in a totally different class than Sumlin.

Herman cut his coaching teeth during the I-formation power running days of Ricky Williams at UT. Herman knows the spread but runs a more smashmouth version. He's a power running coach who sprinkles in the run/pass option and play action to keep the defense honest. You know, just like LSU should be offensively. He does like speedy players and a quick 3-step drop quick passing attack.

And as for you point about Houston coaches, Baylor hired Art Briles and that's worked out pretty good. If LSU sits on its hands and lets another SEC team snag Tom Herman we will rue the day.

My problem is one of experience. The SEC is not a good place for on the job training. He is the flavor of the day. I prefer for the flavor to mature.
