I believe JH loves the Tigers and lets his emotions get too involved with his work, as paul says, it maybe that hes getting old, like alot of us he wants perfection from LSU, Im not ready to get rid of him, to me he's still the only voice of the Tigers

In the Miss State game, Hawthorne responed to a Ford remark and said if we go into overtime we have no chance. He has lost is edge, calls lousy games, and if the AD is going to keep dead wood on, then Joe is not keeping the same standards he has for other so-called pro's in our sports program.

STFU HATES - You idots couldn't call a game if your lives depended on it. you obviously have never even tried. I would rather someone be honest and speak what I was thinking than sugar-coat it for us. Jim Hawthorne LOVES LSU unlike some of the fair-weather fans on here. If you do not like listening to them -DON"T. Either way some people really could not imagine those 5 NC in Baseball including the Warren Morris HR, 2 in football, the MANY, MANY plays that I have heard come from that man's mouth the past 25 years. I am an Alum and supporter of the TAF and people like you who criticise without ever knowing the character or the ability it takes to do the job he has done are simply stupid. Jim Hawthorne at times will make mistakes like anyone else, but you go try to do it as well for as long as he has and come back on here.

so i guess when Ole Miss was up 8 at the 9 minute mark, everybody on this thread just knew that LSU was going to go on a 19-4 run and win the game by 7...damn y'all are good

I believe Jim is the Asst. Athletic Director in charge of broadcasting or something like that. He does not have the Jim Ferguson type of "radio" voice, but he has had a long career calling some extraordinary athletic Tiger moments. I prefer to keep him if the replacement would be Hanagrif or Rush. It has been a LONG time since I have heard a good "radio voice" on the airwaves. Most are just regular guys like us.

"Well, as the game was unfolding toward the 8 min mark, they were saying much the same as I was thinking/feeling.

Shoot me too."

I am the first to admit Hawthorne is over the hill, but, damn some of you are brutal. The Warren Morris home run call against Miami or the NCG call in 2003 just to name two.Wow I will never forget Hawthorne's voice on those calls. Will we be saying the same about Shaq if he stays 2 years too long?Hawthorne deserves to go when he wants he's earned it.

You are absolutely right. As an baseball fan of the Houston Astros and Chicago Cubs, the 2 HOF broadcasters, Harry Carey and Milo Hamilton, I can say I heard so many mistakes in their last 20 years. It makes no sense to throw someone away because they make a mistake or 2. Hawthorne's voice trembling in call after call during defining moments of LSU's recent history (20+ years) is what made me turn-off the sound on my TV many times. Wanting to hear the "call" when these things happened.
I would much prefer Hawthorne calling LSU Football then Gary Daniels. Lord knows that this site would crash because Daniels CALLED every Lee pick on TV. Which tells me that neither Les Miles NOR Gary Crowton know crap about coaching yourg QB's unless it is their own.
SO I petition to get Gary Daniels to call all of LSU Football games next year so we can go 0'fer.
Maybe Hawthore isn't any good, the neither or Les MIles and Gary Crowton. Ever thought about that...

Jaketigger remember this,I'm paraphrasing but here goes

"He hasn't hit a homerun all year so we need some kind of hit. There's the pitch,it's a long flyball way-back-there way-back-there HOMERUN HOMERUN TIGERS WIN TIGERS WIN I DON'T BELIEVE IT A HOMERUN HIS FIRST HOMERUN OF THE YEAR".Forever inscribed in my brain.

I do agree that JH has called all of our greatest athletic moments over the past 25 years or so, and I understand that. That is not what anyone is arguing at all. He is not that bad of a basketball announcer, and he seems to do well with baseball as well. However, his football announcing has really slipped over the past years. It is a lot of editorial, and if you listen to enough football games you have no idea who is winning or losing because even when LSU is winning it is negative and hard to follow.

A prior poster said some crap about his being a big supporter of the TAF- that has NOTHING to do with JH at ALL.

Jesus Christ God Almighty

If there's really nothing to bitch about in LSU athletics, then some people will bitch about the announcing of LSU athletics.

Get a life, douchebags.

Hawthorne is getting more "negative" in his older age, but as someone has already said I think he is just entering the grumpy old man stage of his life.

I do enjoy Hawthorne's calls. He obviously really loves the school. I just wish they could give him a better baseball and basketball color man. Hanigriff is an ok PBP guy but is boring as hell as a color guy and Ford's voice just bothers the hell out of me.

It would be nice if LSU could have Big Ben do the color for Baseball and a former tiger for basketball.

Just because he has happened to be present to call the great moments in LSU history doesnt make him a great announcer. I mean Jack Hunt caught the Bluegrass Miracle according to Jim. He has a 2nd rate voice and a 2nd rate delivery. I am not a play by play announcer but doesnt mean I cant tell a good one when I hear one. Just like I couldnt coach an LSU football team but I sure as hell can tell you I would much rather have Les Miles coaching it than Curly Hallman. Should LSU have a Curly Hallman type announcer calling their games?
