So the team had a meet this past friday afternoon in the practice facility. It was a good one, the team looks very good. The team had a score around 197.500-197.650 ish

Vault:

LSU looked very strong. Freshman Sarah Edwards is one to watch on this event. She is extremely powerful. As of now she competes just a yurchenko full but i really think she has enouh power and rotation for a 1 1/2

Finnegan scored a 9.900

Mckenna Kelley- her new vault is sick, looks fantastic and it has a 10 start value. She scored a 9.900

Edney looked fantastic as always here

Ruby harrold kicked arse and scored a 9.95

Bars:

LSU looks to be improved on this event

Sami Durante will absolutely be in the lineup here, its not even a question. She scored a 9.900 or 9.85 but the routine was essentially flawless

Edney scored a 9.900

Priessman and Finnegan both scored outstanding 9.95's

Beam:

This has to be the deepest event, we have 10 people who could put up 9.9's. Desiderio kicked arse and had a fantastic routine.

Cannemla looked very strong here too

Lexi had a nice routine.

This without question could be LSU's best event, the depth and execution on this event is better than any team I have seen over the past decade and that says a lot

Floor:

LSU will be stacked here as usual. Let me tell yall... yall will love the routines and the music selection this year. Finnegan's especially will make you say wow.

Kelley was the anchor and scored a 9.95

Edney double arabian looks a thousand times better. She scored a 9.900 or 9.925

Myia hambrick looks like Myia, she scored I think a 9.925

Desiderio will be a major contributor on this event. her floor routine could be competing at a world championship. LSU is extremely lucky to have a talent like her

Freshman to watch:

Dean, Desiderio, Durante, and Campbell and Edwards

Durante will be a major bars contributor

Campbell is a beamer and has the ability to be an all american here

Desiderio kicks arse on floor and beam. She will be an all american on both of these events soon.

Overall I am very happy with what I see, the freshman will make a lot of contributions. This team is absolutely stacked and definitely can win a national title this year.

Gym 101 is at 6:30 p.m. on Monday, Dec. 11 inside the Maravich Center.

Its free

Is another super six appearance expected? And if so, will OU once again be the ones to beat?

Sure...who will likely have 10 vaults and E passes on floor? Besides those returning from last year?

Super six I definitely think so

here is are my predictions

OU- Stacked and well coached. Add some nice pieces like LSU despite losing a few studs. Nichols will obviously lead them

UCLA- Unless they drop the ball, which does happen a lot randomly under Val, then I expect them to make it to super six

LSU- We return A LOT of routines.LSU looks to be improved on beam and bars

Floor is somewhat a wash

Vault-I think this year we won't be as incredible as last year. We lose two 10.0 vaulters, one who was a 9.95 almost everytime but I expect LSU to be very very good here. Mckenna Kelley IMO will win a spot based off her performances as of now.

Florida- IMO they look to be the scariest team this year. They return like 90% of their routines and add an incredible freshman class with a few kids from elite level.

LSU OU and Florida look to be the major 3

All can win it with ease, just depends on who performs when it counts

Excellent question

Mckenna Kelley's vault is a 10.0 start value and it looked incredible all fall. I will be shocked if she is not in the lineup

Not sure if many know this but Finnegan is training a 1 1/2 which is a 10.0

Lexie Priessman competes a 1 1/2 and looks fantastic

Desiderio can compete a 1 1/2 as well

As far as floor routines, Edney will likely see one of the floor spots. She is extremely consistent. her double arabian, which is her opening pass from last year is flawless this fall

Desiderio will be in the floor lineup come post season. She does a double layout which is an E level skill

Zamardi and Sydney's routines can definitely be upgraded IMO

So does LSU have much more difficult routines than other schools or am I looking through purple and gold glasses?

No your eyes are perfect

here is a ranking of difficulty from the top teams last year

Vault:
1. LSU (5 10.0 S.V's)
2. OU/Florida (4 10.0 S.V's)
4. Utah (2 10.0 S.V's)
5. UCLA and Bama (1 10.0 S.V)

Uneven Bars:
1. UCLA (12 E skills and 10 D skills)
2. LSU (10 E skills and 10 D skills)
3. OU (10 E and 9 D skills)
4. Utah and Florida (10 E skills and 9 D skills (these two teams had less C skills so are ranked lower)
6. Bama (9 E skills and 9 D skills)

Beam:
1. LSU
2. Bama
3. Utah
4. OU
5. Florida
6. UCLA

Floor:
1. LSU ( 2nd place isn't even close)
2. OU
3. Florida
4. Bama
5. Georgia
6. UCLA

So to answer, yes

LSU kills eveyone with difficulty

IMO difficulty is most beneficial on vault and floor

Bars and Beam scores they are way too easy now a days on routines

Beam is literally seems like they don't give a frick

Thank you so much for these updates. It’s so nice to see someone updating us regularly on this awesome team.

As usual, I have a few questions.

I noticed you said Desiderio will be competing on floor by post season. Are they taking it easy with her right now? Is she training on vault yet?

Besides Desiderio, who else in the freshman class can you see eventually competing on floor during their LSU career? This class seems to have more beam workers than power floor and vault workers. I did see a video from Dean in 2015 of her training a DLO on floor. Does she still train that?

So of the open spots on each event, who is your predication to fill them?

Vault – McKenna, Edwards?
Bars – Sami
Beam – So many options. How do you choose? It’s a very good problem to have. Personally, if she is hitting consistently, I would love to see Campbell get one of those open spots on beam. She looks so lovely on beam in her JO videos.
Floor – Edney, eventually Desiderio, ?

The staff paced her smartly this fall. When she competed at the elite level, her body was beat up. DD IMO is probably one of the smartest when it comes to this stuff. They are trying to make sure she will have a fresh body come April. As of now I have seen her compete vault, beam and floor. I don't expect to really see her on bars, definitely not her event.

Dean and Campbell are very nice floor workers. DD has raved about Campbell on this event. Dean is excellent on beam, bars and floor. Dean still trains a DLO, Sarah Edwards is extremely powerful and is a little bit of a work in progress on floor

On Vault we lose two people, as of now my two people would be Mckenna Kelley and Lexi Priessman. Both have 10.0 start values.

Althouh Sarah Edwards will earn spots in many of the meets this year. DD likes to have more 10 vaults in the lineup

Bars- We only lose shae, Durante seems like a lock. She puts up very high scores every week. She is very clean on this event. She has nice difficulty. She performs a pak salto as a transition from high to low. If you wonder what a pak salto is, its Lexi's transition from high to low bar

But we also have many other people extremely capable on bars. Dean looks very good here. Erin trains here too but I don't see her as a starter in this lineup.

I expect Durante to be a major upgrade over Zamardi

Beam- We lose two people in this area, its ridiculous difficult to even predict as of now. Campbell, Dean and Desiderio all can put up major scores here. If yall remember lauren Li is fantastic on this event as well. She will be in the mix. Lexi has done a nice job but IMO I don''t see her as a starter on this event. It will likely be a freshman or two earning it. Mckenna Kelley is someone to watch as well. I mentioned last year she was incredible on beam but injuries held her back. She could be a contributor here.

In the end, we wont really know until 101 and first meet of the year. We have a lot of options but its a very good problem to have.

Floor- We lose 3 routines.

Edney in my mind is almost a lock here. She returns experience and looks fantastic this fall. Edney's double arabian, her first pass looks very improved and near flawless. That is an E level skill.

That leaves LSU with two.

Desiderio will be too much to keep out the lineup. She was already considered one of the best floor workers in the country prior to LSU. She literally sticks her double layout almost every time, its crazy. She is someone who will put up 9.90's every week

Last spot will be a battle. A lot of capable people. Lexi Priessman could be someone who can be that person. Campbell is also someone to watch. Ruby potentially could but I think DD would prefer one of the freshman. I can't predict that last spot at this point. Too early to tell. A lot of floors are still a work in progress

Is Sarah Finnegan still training a double layout on floor? I always thought we’d see a double Arabian from her, since she competed a dos Santos!

I never see any mentions of Standley...is she injured?

She actually is training a double layout now, not sure if we will see it though. She already has nice difficulty.

I hate to sound like an a-hole for sayin this but she was added for depth purposes. She received top trainin at Lexi's gym. She has a lot of work ahead to be a contributor for a team like LSU

IMO if she ever contributes it would be next year or junior year.

Bars is probably her best event. She needs to clean up her form. She sometimes rushes her handstands. Not enough amplitudes on release skills, a bit of leg separation

Lexie scares me on floor. We may need her, but I'm literally on the edge of my seat every team she is on floor just praying that she doesn't break herself for good this time. She seems to always have a problem with that last pass.

Overall, everything sounds good and I'm just so excited for season to be right around the corner!

Lexi has had difficulties with endurance in her time here at LSU due to injuries, which is why you saw a bit of inconsistency at the end of her routines

Lexi was considered one of the best tumblers in the world prior to arriving at LSU.

I have zero doubt in my mind if it weren't for injuries, Lexi would be an All American on Floor. She can do almost any skill with ease. IMO her and Desiderio are probably the most gifted tumblers.

We shall see though, her body is already brittle so the staff will likely just use her on two events only. I only see her on vault and bars. A healthy Lexi is absolutely crucial for this team
