That ball that left the park last night looked like it was doing over 100

We can look at Guidry’s outing last night in a couple different ways. Because of that extra velocity and his command (usually) of his off speed pitches, Guidry was almost untouchable in the 8th. He didn’t have the same stuff in the 9th. I think he topped out at 93, but was more around 92 in the 8th.

Yes, we really need him to be able to get 6 outs in a close game. But maybe he can’t. Maybe he’s just a 1-inning, max effort guy. So in close games, you gotta try to bridge somebody to get to him in the 9th. Maybe with 4+ run lead, you send him out there in the 8th and let him try to get 6 outs.

I know the “perfect” plan was to get through a Friday with just Evan’s and Guidry. That may need to be rethought.

And I’m still concerned about how how Moore’s stuff is going to play against SEC lineups, particular the 2nd and 3rd times through. I feel like even in his really good starts, it’s gonna take at least another 3 guys to get home. We’ll see how Schmidt does tomorrow, but I wouldn’t be surprised if he winds up switching with Moore at some point. I think we’re gonna need more arms on Sunday as it’s set up now. Not sure we have them yet. Or at least identified.

I’m never giving up on this kid. The brilliance is there and the consistency will follow.
